FULL TRANSCRIPT [00:00:00] every step I take I move my truth every [00:00:02] time they tell me stop I every comment [00:00:04] hate that makes my up my energy and boom [00:00:08] I the way that I move is so that is a [00:00:10] part of my mind I've been blessed with [00:00:12] giving my blood so I am [00:00:14] Relentless this is the keep hammering [00:00:17] Collective with the reigning defending [00:00:23] UHC champion of the world UFC pull-up [00:00:26] champion of the world TR it Hayes and a [00:00:29] third thir Time guest really yeah wow I [00:00:33] heard somebody or I mean I saw a comment [00:00:35] somebody say I thought this podcast was [00:00:36] for outliers I was going to say that if [00:00:38] you weren't and uh I hope in your eyes [00:00:41] whoever you are that commented that that [00:00:43] I've lived up your expectation for the [00:00:45] show you you [00:00:47] haven't you have for sure haven't not [00:00:50] not compared to somebody who would say [00:00:51] that but no um I think they they think [00:00:54] like oh you're just interviewing your [00:00:57] kid nepotism is what I saw right there [00:01:00] you go but let's just say you are the [00:01:05] two time and now [00:01:08] defending World Guinness book a world [00:01:11] record official pull-up champion in 24 [00:01:13] hours with 10,000 one pull-ups right [00:01:16] that's I think that's outlier status [00:01:18] what do you think if that's not then I [00:01:21] don't know what is I guess but I will [00:01:23] say last time the the first podcast that [00:01:26] I did with you the first episode it said [00:01:28] uh I think four former Guinness World [00:01:31] Record holder yeah and then so now it [00:01:33] should say current yeah and that's [00:01:35] that's a lot better we're making some [00:01:36] Headway yeah yeah so that uh what a day [00:01:41] that was I mean what looking back on it [00:01:44] do you ever think about it now or if you [00:01:46] had to remember that day where you did [00:01:48] 10,000 one pull-ups in 24 hours what do [00:01:50] you think of [00:01:52] now I think that the job is done like [00:01:56] and so it was it was a lot of years [00:01:57] obviously um more specifically 6 months [00:02:00] like dedicated to that one goal and then [00:02:03] I got it and now it's on to the next [00:02:05] like honestly I don't spend too much [00:02:07] time thinking about it I'm like yeah [00:02:08] that was awesome but you can't I don't [00:02:10] know if you can really just like sit [00:02:13] there and be extremely proud for the [00:02:15] rest of your life and not really think [00:02:18] about the next thing I'm just like [00:02:21] always you know on to the next on to the [00:02:23] next and I mean like I can be proud of [00:02:25] my effort but it it really doesn't do [00:02:27] too much for me now like I just got the [00:02:30] official certificate in the mail right [00:02:32] before we left to come here and I just [00:02:34] looked at it and I was like sweet you [00:02:36] know I'm not just like brought to tears [00:02:38] or anything like it didn't [00:02:40] really I I think more than anything it [00:02:43] just proved what I already knew about [00:02:44] myself I was like yeah I know that I can [00:02:46] get the record and then like it [00:02:48] validated it sure but I already knew [00:02:50] that it was going to happen and then so [00:02:52] it wasn't like a big shock to me yeah [00:02:55] you're just D the eyes crossing the teas [00:02:58] put in the work just this was a goal got [00:03:00] it done yep yep um yeah and here's [00:03:04] what's crazy well if it if it does ever [00:03:08] get broke which I'm sure it will all [00:03:10] records go down eventually right but [00:03:13] here's what's crazy is like your 12 hour [00:03:16] pace is almost unbeatable almost you [00:03:19] would think because you were right [00:03:21] almost a 7,000 in 12 hours the 12h hour [00:03:25] World Records what 5600 well actually it [00:03:29] just got broken oh it did 7100 oh God [00:03:32] okay well never mind then somebody [00:03:35] crushed it yeah so I mean I got to like [00:03:38] uh 6,900 at 12 hours mhm and then so one [00:03:42] could argue if I was going just for 12 [00:03:44] hours oh yeah then I I could make up 200 [00:03:47] reps definitely but that's not to take [00:03:49] away from the guy that just crushed it [00:03:50] no no he was he was beating 5600 he did [00:03:54] it by, 1500 whatever it's amazing [00:03:56] exactly yeah so no one told him that he [00:03:59] had to get 100 he just gave his absolute [00:04:01] all and that's what he ended up with a [00:04:03] lot of respect for that cuz most guys [00:04:05] like when you're going to break the [00:04:06] record they break it by like 100 200 uh [00:04:10] maybe 300 normally it's never like 800 [00:04:13] which was what I was able to do this [00:04:15] last time and then for him to [00:04:17] do to do the math is like 1,400 more [00:04:20] it's like to have that hunger to keep [00:04:22] going the whole time even though you [00:04:24] already smashed the record it's hard to [00:04:26] find that mindset yeah well I mean it's [00:04:30] also hard just to keep that pace up like [00:04:32] you know to that point so 7,000 and 12 [00:04:35] hours for you and then 3,000 in the [00:04:37] second 12 right so it's uh yeah and once [00:04:42] you get it obviously like I I know after [00:04:45] you broke it this last time it like the [00:04:48] energy went out of the room it was [00:04:50] freaking over I was like sleep on a bean [00:04:54] bag or I don't even know what I was in [00:04:56] but barely paying attention the music [00:04:59] was probably off uh everybody went home [00:05:02] and then you're just like God I still [00:05:03] got to get so you broke the record but [00:05:05] you wanted to get 10,000 you still to [00:05:06] get 700 more 750 more and yeah that's [00:05:11] that doesn't just happen no no you [00:05:13] really have to just yeah chip away at it [00:05:16] my hands were absolutely shredded at [00:05:17] that time and then so yeah to to just [00:05:21] finish that out you said that you're [00:05:22] going to do it so you have to do it um [00:05:25] and luckily I had like 6 hours though [00:05:27] yeah so I could just take my sweet time [00:05:29] took it all but yeah that's a that's [00:05:31] tough after you reach your goal it'd be [00:05:33] like you know you finish a 100 mile race [00:05:35] and like hey you just want to get a few [00:05:37] more [inaudible] not really right my my mindset [00:05:40] was to get 100 and I I got it but yeah [00:05:44] so so hard um but yeah incredible day [00:05:48] the first man to or human to go over [00:05:51] 10,000 pull-ups in 24 hours so that was [00:05:54] pretty special um yeah was it harder [00:05:57] than you thought it'd be or did was a [00:06:00] the was a challenge in the work leading [00:06:03] up and just getting your body ready I [00:06:06] and that's that's the biggest take away [00:06:07] from me is and I think um David Ro you [00:06:11] know he the Leadville course he just [00:06:13] broke that record it was like 27 years [00:06:15] old or whatever you have to absolutely [00:06:17] kill yourself in training um and then [00:06:20] and then you kind of already know that [00:06:22] you're going to be able to do it come [00:06:23] race day like he was able to predict [00:06:25] within like the minute of when he would [00:06:27] finish Leadville and then so so for me [00:06:30] it was like I really pushed myself in [00:06:33] training because I did not want to have [00:06:36] a a where I would show my ass like on [00:06:39] the record day it's just like really [00:06:41] embarrassing and i' show your ass and [00:06:43] I've been there before yeah to where [00:06:44] like everyone kind of looks at you like [00:06:48] oh you were unprepared for this and it's [00:06:50] kind of embarrassing because it's like [00:06:52] you said that you wanted to do this and [00:06:54] then now you just look like a looser you [00:06:56] don't even know what you're doing and [00:06:56] then people are chiming in like um hey [00:06:59] you might want to try this out like cuz [00:07:01] they feel the need to like coach you up [00:07:03] since you obviously didn't do it [00:07:05] yourself like that happened during the [00:07:06] 8100 even for me a lot of people a lot [00:07:09] of advice this time around no one hardly [00:07:13] really said anything to me just because [00:07:14] I was like you should wear gloves I [00:07:17] should wear gloves yeah except those [00:07:19] people Everyone that was in that room [00:07:21] though they kind of just knew that like [00:07:23] it was going to happen yeah there wasn't [00:07:25] a lot of doubt I was a lot more dialed [00:07:27] yeah I mean it reminds me of when you [00:07:30] people do just say [00:07:32] stuff and I don't know if they don't [00:07:35] believe it or if they're just trying to [00:07:36] get a good Sound by or they're trying to [00:07:38] sell their but it reminds me you know [00:07:40] the Paul Johnson running across America [00:07:42] then or the whole country what do they [00:07:45] call that transcon transcon um but four [00:07:48] days in he said yeah I'm not going to [00:07:50] won't not going to happen four days out [00:07:52] of 40 or 50 or whatever already thrown [00:07:55] in the towel so it's like well how how [00:07:57] real was this attempt you know [00:08:00] but yeah so that's and hey props to he [00:08:03] put himself out there he actually ran [00:08:05] across United States that's incredible [00:08:09] um yeah but it's just like people will [00:08:11] pick apart what you say and how you went [00:08:13] about it and then and also with with a [00:08:17] revisionist history look back and be [00:08:18] like well you weren't even ready and but [00:08:20] you said you were going to do this how [00:08:22] why would you say that yep and I'm I'm [00:08:25] very aware of that just like in the [00:08:27] ultra endurance sport space [00:08:30] people will critique you and like if you [00:08:33] put yourself out there you say your goal [00:08:34] just like that Paul Johnson he was like [00:08:37] I'm going to try to break the record it [00:08:38] was a big deal a lot of people following [00:08:40] along and then it it didn't happen after [00:08:42] 4 days or whatever and then another [00:08:44] person I can think of uh Ned Brockman he [00:08:47] said he was going to go for the record [00:08:49] and then it it just it didn't pan out [00:08:51] the way that he thought but people will [00:08:53] still criticize you even though you did [00:08:54] something that's remarkable mhm um like [00:08:57] running a th000 miles I think it ended [00:08:59] up taking like 12 days yeah and the [00:09:01] people criticizing they would never even [00:09:02] dream of doing that but since that you [00:09:04] said that you were going to do it they [00:09:06] hold you to your word right and so I [00:09:08] knew that was going to happen cuz I would [00:09:10] say people would ask me they're like so [00:09:13] like how long you going to go for how [00:09:15] many do you plan to get and I said don't [00:09:16] even don't even give me the record if I [00:09:18] don't get at least 10,000 MH so like [00:09:21] with saying that beforehand and then if [00:09:23] I wasn't to do it it's just you don't [00:09:27] want to be in that position yeah so I [00:09:29] made it to where it was like the [00:09:30] training everything was absolutely [00:09:32] dialed got down to 7% body fat or [00:09:35] whatever um 165 lbs going to bed hungry [00:09:41] waking up um running like 10 miles doing [00:09:44] the thousands of pull-ups and and just [00:09:46] every single thing was just boom boom [00:09:48] boom I knew exactly what I was doing for [00:09:49] that day and recently we watched like [00:09:52] the Brian Johnson uh Netflix documentary [00:09:55] and don't die don't die pretty easy to [00:09:58] like look at him and like what a freak [00:10:00] or like what a weirdo what a stupid way [00:10:02] to live your life and then the more that [00:10:04] I thought about it I woke up the next [00:10:05] morning took like my 30 pills yeah uh go [00:10:09] on the Run come back pull-ups every [00:10:11] minute on the minute uh 10 reps just [00:10:14] standing there for hours and I was like [00:10:16] maybe I'm more like him than I thought [00:10:18] yeah regimented regimented yeah because [00:10:20] that's that is what it takes though um [00:10:23] to get to that next level and then for [00:10:25] like high performance you can't it [00:10:27] doesn't happen by accident mhm mhm so [00:10:30] yeah it's just you know you just got to [00:10:31] be dialed in every facet of your life [00:10:33] but yeah Big goals they they require a [00:10:36] lot yeah um yeah that was a big one and [00:10:41] it's like that one's got a lot of [00:10:42] attention over last few years handful of [00:10:45] years I mean goin's first made it [00:10:47] famous with his [00:10:49] 4,032 and that was in what 2013 mhm and [00:10:53] you know since then now it's like it's [00:10:55] on people's radar and they want to get [00:10:57] that record just cuz it gets so much [00:10:58] attention and yeah to get [00:11:01] 10,000 it's uh it's incredible um so in [00:11:06] the training every day like how would [00:11:09] you motivate yourself to get in that [00:11:10] work or is this is just who you are now [00:11:15] no that's that's a good question and [00:11:17] it's I don't know where it comes [00:11:20] from um I guess it's kind of like going [00:11:24] for the record I would say brought on a [00:11:27] lot of fear um just because of how badly [00:11:31] I hurtt during that 8100 it was more [00:11:34] pain than during that 8100 it hurt so [00:11:37] badly my hands every time I would touch [00:11:40] the bar they were so tender it would [00:11:41] like send U like Shivers up my spine it [00:11:44] was just like oh my God the point is it [00:11:48] hurt so badly and uh to for me to [00:11:51] announce that I was going to go for the [00:11:52] record again brought on a lot of fear [00:11:54] just because you know how badly [00:11:56] something's going to hurt yeah and um [00:11:58] and then you can fail there's always [00:12:00] that possibility and that hurts as well [00:12:03] but fear you can either um use it to [00:12:06] your advantage you know like cook food [00:12:08] with it or you can allow it to burn your [00:12:11] house down that's like Mike Tyson said [00:12:13] something along those lines and it's [00:12:15] true for me I've been able to harness [00:12:17] that pretty well to where it is an [00:12:19] extreme motivation for me uh whether [00:12:23] that's like on the runs for the [00:12:24] marathons cuz I know that eyes are going [00:12:27] to be on me whether it's because of the [00:12:29] pull-ups or I'm your son or I'm in jeans [00:12:34] whatever it is there's a Target on my [00:12:36] back and I know that people are going to [00:12:37] want to compete and beat me um and [00:12:41] that's fine but I use that that fear of [00:12:44] competition and losing to my advantage [00:12:47] fear failure fear of failure yeah so [00:12:49] I've been able to do that I did that [00:12:50] really well this last time with the [00:12:52] pull-ups and and I I don't know what it [00:12:55] comes from but like I just have an idea [00:12:58] that like people are like laughing at me [00:13:01] they're just like laughing at me looking [00:13:03] weak looking stupid um because like I'm [00:13:06] I'm saying these big goals and then I [00:13:08] don't rise to the occasion and I want to [00:13:10] protect myself from that so I'm just [00:13:12] like okay like you guys have no idea um [00:13:15] what you're what you're like turning me [00:13:17] into and then so like I'll show you type [00:13:20] of deal so then I've been able to use [00:13:22] that fear and like that um of not living [00:13:25] up to my expectations pretty well it's [00:13:27] just a good fuel source for me uh maybe [00:13:30] even more so than like being thankful [00:13:32] for the ability to do it which maybe [00:13:34] isn't the healthiest but for whatever [00:13:36] reason that just gets me right into gear [00:13:39] I just don't want to look weak yeah yeah [00:13:44] no I get that well I mean if you failed [00:13:46] I think people would be pretty cool [00:13:47] about it they wouldn't no would they [00:13:49] wouldn't really say anything they'd be [00:13:51] like that's okay good job you tried you [00:13:53] tried your best people are are so [00:13:56] supportive no yeah they're br not that [00:13:59] I've seen they're brutal on social media [00:14:02] so yeah how do you deal with like you do [00:14:05] set big goals you do put yourself out [00:14:07] there I've told you before there's a lot [00:14:09] to Hate About You uh if people want to [00:14:12] be jealous or they want to you know [00:14:15] goodlooking in shape uh good following [00:14:18] doing awesome stuff that's going to [00:14:20] drive a lot of people crazy so how do [00:14:22] you deal with those type of people that [00:14:25] essentially want to lash out because for [00:14:27] whatever reason they feel certain way [00:14:29] about you and they want you to hurt how [00:14:31] what do you how do you deal with [00:14:34] it that's a good question I'm still [00:14:36] trying to figure that one out yeah um no [00:14:38] I think I can just I think I can [00:14:41] understand that when you put yourself [00:14:43] out there not everyone's going to just [00:14:45] accept you mhm and that's the world that [00:14:47] we live in every single person has [00:14:49] critics and I can't expect that it's [00:14:51] going to be any different with me um and [00:14:54] I just need to stay committed to my goal [00:14:56] and uh stay focused on the task at hand [00:14:59] and and realize that not everyone's [00:15:01] going to be a fan but that doesn't [00:15:03] change anything mhm um just [00:15:07] like every single person in the world [00:15:10] like you could be doing the most good [00:15:11] out of anybody and people are like well [00:15:14] I mean so Ken write out I messaged him [00:15:16] just because he's dealt with like haters [00:15:18] before as a few um and he said he [00:15:22] messaged me and was like you could walk [00:15:24] on water then people would say um that [00:15:26] you can't swim yeah and it's true I [00:15:29] people will just find anything to point [00:15:31] out like a criticism of you because [00:15:33] you're getting attention people are [00:15:35] celebrating your goals the fact that [00:15:37] you're going after um all these [00:15:39] achievements and then you have publicity [00:15:41] uh people talking about you that just [00:15:44] comes with it yeah and so I just need to [00:15:46] not be so sensitive really to it um yeah [00:15:50] it's just when you put yourself out [00:15:51] there you just open yourself up to to a [00:15:53] lot of it mhm what I like to say is Love [00:15:57] Me Or Hate Me I'm still getting [00:16:00] paid I didn't make it up I don't know [00:16:02] who did but good job well there's that [00:16:04] one bowler I forget his name but Pete [00:16:07] Weber Pete Weber yeah yeah he's like uh [00:16:10] love [inaudible] Legend Love Me Or Hate Me [00:16:12] He said something along those lines Love [00:16:14] Me Or Hate Me uh all you could do was [00:16:16] watch oh yeah yeah no that's that is [00:16:18] another good one all you could do was [00:16:20] watch yeah cuz he was out he was the [00:16:22] actual you know people the whole man in [00:16:25] the arena yeah bowling probably not the [00:16:27] arena I guess Tedd Rosel was talking [00:16:29] about but Pete Weber was the ones people [00:16:32] were sitting in the stands watching yeah [00:16:35] and yeah you watched that's all you [00:16:37] could do that's all you could do but it [00:16:39] does bring up a good [00:16:41] point humans in general like sports and [00:16:46] entertainment this is a criticism that I [00:16:48] receive and it's [00:16:49] like I think I I posted about myself [00:16:53] breaking the record officially and I was [00:16:55] just saying like how much it meant to me [00:16:57] how long will process it was and [00:17:00] like all this motivational stuff and I [00:17:03] think I kind of took myself seriously in [00:17:05] that moment and then someone was like [00:17:07] relax buddy all you did was pull [00:17:09] yourself up on a bar yeah it's not like [00:17:11] you cured cancer or something and it's [00:17:13] like that is true and I can understand [00:17:16] like I would in [00:17:17] another like few years back I probably [00:17:20] would have made fun of the same thing [00:17:21] but like all you did was pull-ups you [00:17:23] dork yeah but you have to take yourself [00:17:27] that seriously if you want to set a [00:17:28] world record mhm for something or if [00:17:30] you're passionate about something my [00:17:32] mind always go goes towards Michael [00:17:34] Jordan and it's like what is he what did [00:17:36] he really do mhm put a ball into a hoop [00:17:40] yeah kids do it every day all over the [00:17:42] world all over the it's a game yeah it's [00:17:44] just for fun you're in school and then [00:17:47] uh teachers are like okay 15 minutes to [00:17:49] go and play what do you go and do you [00:17:51] grab a basketball you're literally [00:17:53] taking a break from actual work school [00:17:55] to go and play a game basketball and [00:17:57] that's what Michael Jordan did for a [00:17:58] living but he inspired Millions maybe [00:18:00] inspiration is like a cheap word these [00:18:02] days to say that like oh I just want to [00:18:04] inspire people and then they're like [00:18:07] okay whatever but um the point is it's [00:18:10] like that the 10,000 one reps would [00:18:14] never happen unless I assigned the most [00:18:17] meaning to it mhm and so if you want to [00:18:19] achieve a goal it has to be like you [00:18:20] have to live and breathe it and then so [00:18:22] that's what I did there and I know it's [00:18:26] it is kind of silly sometimes to think [00:18:27] that like a game can have so much [00:18:29] meaning but for me it did and I I hope [00:18:32] that people can take that maybe you [00:18:33] aren't obsessed with games or with [00:18:36] exercising or running marathons even [00:18:39] just like it's kind of arbitrary to be [00:18:41] like oh you want to break a 230 Marathon [00:18:43] what's the big deal that doesn't mean [00:18:44] anything people have done it thousands [00:18:46] of times yeah but you have to give [00:18:49] yourself these goals and they are [00:18:50] personal goals and I think everyone has [00:18:53] a goal that they're working towards and [00:18:55] then force me to come along and say [00:18:57] that's stupid that I just don't really [00:18:59] it's personal you know yeah well a lot [00:19:03] of people don't care really care [00:19:05] passionately about anything and they [00:19:08] they so they might not know what that's [00:19:10] like you know most people they wonder [00:19:12] what their passion is or what what can [00:19:15] motivate them they're looking for that [00:19:17] every day they go to a job they don't [00:19:18] like you know they do whatever they're [00:19:21] just going through the motions so when [00:19:23] somebody is tunnel visioned on something [00:19:25] whether it's Michael Jordan on [00:19:27] basketball not saying you're Michael [00:19:29] Jordan but it is an arbitrary thing to [00:19:31] be passionate about and be the best [00:19:33] competitor in the world but that's what [00:19:34] he cared about and because he cared a [00:19:37] lot of other people cared MH and watched [00:19:40] him same with you so most people can [00:19:42] identify with that mindset because [00:19:45] they've never had something in their [00:19:46] life that they're like just like I got [00:19:48] to do this I have to do this every day [00:19:51] I'm dedicated to this thing and would [00:19:54] their life be richer or more fulfilled [00:19:57] with something like that probably but [00:20:00] that doesn't mean that everybody finds [00:20:01] it mhm that's that's the hard part and [00:20:03] that's where people kind of I think um [00:20:06] have trouble connecting sometimes with [00:20:08] people who are very focused and you know just [00:20:13] like the whole the other saying is like [00:20:16] accept no excuses produce only results [00:20:19] that mindset is very rare everybody [00:20:22] makes excuses everybody has an excuse [00:20:25] why they didn't get the results but when [00:20:27] you have this like I accept no excuses I [00:20:30] produce only results right there not [00:20:33] everybody gets that but if you get it [00:20:35] it's going to resonate with a lot of [00:20:36] people sure and I think I can blame you [00:20:40] a little bit for this mindset because [00:20:42] you remember this is your own words [00:20:45] we're at the movie theater and I don't [00:20:46] know how old we were probably I was [00:20:48] probably like 10 10 or was 13 and you [00:20:51] said like look around this is average [00:20:54] you don't want to be average so in the [00:20:56] back of my mind from like 10 years old I [00:20:58] was like [00:20:59] I don't know what I'm going to do with [00:21:00] my life but I'm definitely not going to [00:21:02] be average cuz my dad said that's not [00:21:04] what we were supposed to be yeah I said [00:21:06] uh I said look around it's like all the [00:21:08] people standing in line getting snacks [00:21:10] just like we were but uh but in I in [00:21:13] most people I'm not whatever but are [00:21:17] overweight maybe whatever but I just [00:21:21] said you look at everybody there that's [00:21:24] average that's not what we're trying to [00:21:26] be that's not that is not the goal cuz [00:21:28] and I think I said well this might have [00:21:29] been a little tooo far but I said being [00:21:32] average is failing mhm and so maybe I [00:21:36] could afforded it better but yeah I mean [00:21:39] so if someone wanted to blame me why I'm [00:21:41] on this path I would just say my [00:21:44] dad um yeah you know it's like it's [00:21:47] pretty funny we were talking about [00:21:48] making this this film on the pull-ups [00:21:51] and I've said this before like the old [00:21:54] family videos from when kids were little [00:21:57] nobody gives a about watching those [00:22:00] until that kid who wrecked on his bike [00:22:03] does something amazing right without the [00:22:06] amazing part nobody's going to watch the [00:22:08] kid wrecking on the bike I don't know [00:22:09] the video is pretty [00:22:11] cute it's it's pretty good [00:22:14] but I let's put this let's put this in [00:22:17] context because people I feel weird when [00:22:21] people are like now they see like what [00:22:24] you've done we run together we do these [00:22:27] things just like oh oh you're the best [00:22:29] dad and I'm just like you weren't around [00:22:33] all the time I'll tell you that cuz I [00:22:34] definitely was not the best dad [00:22:38] um well that that actually reminds me I I'll [00:22:42] interject I went on a run today 8 miles [00:22:45] after we just did the 18 Mile yesterday [00:22:47] yeah ran past um Briggs Middle School [00:22:51] where Tanner and I would both run in [00:22:54] elementary school You' go across the [00:22:56] street and run the mile I'm sure they [00:22:59] don't do that anymore it's probably [00:23:00] against the law you can't that's child [00:23:03] abuse yeah but anyway I thought about this [00:23:08] um in relation to you that like we would [00:23:10] run around that um track try to see how [00:23:13] fast we could do it Tanner ended up [00:23:15] setting the school record I think it's [00:23:18] 639 and then four years later I did [00:23:21] 628 big deal um made us feel good about [00:23:25] ourselves all that but for whatever [00:23:27] reason you I don't know how you [00:23:29] contacted the school and was able to do [00:23:32] were able to do this but I would get [00:23:34] pulled I think starting from the first [00:23:36] grade or second grade when they would go [00:23:39] and run the mile I would go and run it [00:23:40] with them mhm and then so they'd be like [00:23:42] hey TR they're they're going across so [00:23:44] go like get with them and then so I'd go [00:23:47] and run the mile with them and I'd be [00:23:48] the only second grade whatever mhm and [00:23:50] what grade were they fifth yeah yeah so [00:23:52] only the fifth graders would go and run [00:23:54] the M oh got you yeah so you asked the [00:23:57] school if I could go and run it it and [00:23:58] then so I'd get excused every day to go [00:24:00] and run it with him and then I remember [00:24:03] Mom picked me up after one day after [00:24:05] doing it and I remember it was I think [00:24:09] you wanted me to get the fastest mile [00:24:12] ever by uh second grader or whatever and [00:24:16] I didn't get it but I lied to Mom and I [00:24:19] said that I got like 721 and I was like [00:24:22] I got the fastest mile by a second [00:24:23] grader ever and she was like good job [00:24:26] and I was like yeah it was either that [00:24:27] or 751 [00:24:29] and then but I knew that I got 751 but I [00:24:32] lied cuz I think I just wanted to maybe [00:24:36] like get you off my back for that just [00:24:39] be like H if I can just give him this [00:24:41] and maybe he'll leave me alone a little [00:24:42] about like trying to go the extra mile I [00:24:45] don't probably not I don't think I was [00:24:47] SCH too well at scheming in the second [00:24:50] grade you could probably see through [00:24:53] that um but I mean I'm I'm sure that [00:24:55] there was a lot of pressure as a kid [00:24:58] just running and then trying to [00:25:00] perform you're sure there was yeah or there [00:25:05] was or you don't remember it's [00:25:07] impossible to remember yeah no um yeah [00:25:11] that was I I definitely never wanted you [00:25:13] guys compared to all the other kids so I [00:25:16] knew it was just the fifth graders but [00:25:17] I'm like I don't care I want my kid [00:25:20] running the mile and I don't care that [00:25:22] he's second grade same reason I had you [00:25:25] run the marathon when you're supposed to [00:25:26] be 16 you're only 13 yeah but yeah well [00:25:30] I'm just like I'm always been adverse to [00:25:34] just comparing to the average like well [00:25:35] this is what we do when we get in fifth [00:25:37] grade it's like well no what I want to I [00:25:39] want you to do it when they're younger [00:25:40] but and it's or it's like the average on [00:25:43] killing bull elk or whatever is 10% it's [00:25:45] just like I don't care about average I'm [00:25:47] not I'm not again we're not after [00:25:50] average we're after setting new whatever [00:25:54] so that was it started with you guys [00:25:56] young but to I guess to the point I want [00:25:58] make is [00:25:59] that um cuz there'll be some dads out [00:26:03] there that see like our relationship see [00:26:06] what we've done they tell me oh you're a [00:26:09] great dad and I'm like no I wasn't I cuz [00:26:13] cuz most [00:26:15] kids I got lucky with kids that could [00:26:18] respond and it wasn't always perfect the [00:26:20] response wasn't perfect but there's [00:26:23] going to be some kids that some dads see [00:26:25] this starts pushing their their kid and [00:26:28] they're just not made for it's just like [00:26:31] it's gonna turn out bad that's what I [00:26:33] feel bad about I got lucky with you guys [00:26:35] because you guys could respond and again [00:26:38] it wasn't perfect there a lot lot of [00:26:40] Tears a lot of whatever but at the end [00:26:42] of the day we're here now and it's all [00:26:44] good but it it was rough for a while [00:26:47] well and the difficulty is I responded [00:26:49] about 10 years [00:26:51] later so for a while there I mean [00:26:54] honestly maybe that's maybe that's what [00:26:56] it took for a while I did not want to [00:26:59] run with you I didn't want to go hunt [00:27:00] with you so I mean it it like eventually [00:27:02] I I I came around but it's it's really [00:27:05] hard to say that everyone's going to be [00:27:06] the same yeah I mean what if something [00:27:08] would happened to me and maybe I would [00:27:10] people die all the time dads die all the [00:27:13] time what if during that time where we [00:27:15] didn't run and didn't hunt because I had [00:27:17] pushed you guys heart maybe what if I [00:27:19] would have died and then that was it [00:27:21] right we got lucky that didn't didn't [00:27:24] happen and now we have this you know [00:27:25] good relationship and we're we push each [00:27:27] other in and it's fun and all that but it's [00:27:31] like yeah so when people say stuff like [00:27:33] it I'm like oh God I don't I definitely [00:27:36] don't feel like I did good but uh it's [00:27:39] easy now to to think oh man the kids [00:27:41] turned out great but yeah I mean because [00:27:45] there was a level of and I know exactly [00:27:48] what you're talking about now as an [00:27:49] adult how we didn't go the extra mile we [00:27:53] really didn't as kids like just thinking [00:27:55] back on it even so we did that 18 Mile y [00:27:58] yesterday um finished at my high school [00:28:00] at the halfway point then ran back and [00:28:02] by the way you absolutely crushed it and [00:28:04] you were faster than me it it's so your [00:28:08] alltime PR is 250 mine's 242 on paper [00:28:11] I'm faster yesterday I was dying and you [00:28:15] were still ahead of me for 18 miles so [00:28:18] you should be in theory yeah sub [00:28:22] 40 just say it that's your new goal sub [00:28:25] to okay but okay anyway I'm trying to [00:28:28] finish Boston that's my goal see if I [00:28:30] can finish it good um so Marist I ran [00:28:35] there all through High School track and [00:28:37] cross country let me set the scene you [00:28:40] were a great Runner yeah one time were [00:28:43] you a freshman or what but we ran [00:28:45] Spencers I did this little video is in [00:28:47] the rain I said I said the Phenom TR [00:28:51] haes is a running Phenom which you could [00:28:53] have been at that time yep so that's [00:28:56] what that's what I was trying to ins [00:28:58] still in you to this belief that you were [00:29:02] great yeah I think I was 16 at that time [00:29:04] that that was my fastest that was the [00:29:06] fastest I ever was in high school you [00:29:08] still have two more years after [00:29:10] sophomore year and i' let it go yeah so [00:29:12] tell me then what happened in high [00:29:14] school well I just I [00:29:16] underachieved and I don't know what that [00:29:20] came from maybe it was just the [00:29:21] expectations or the pressure or just how [00:29:24] bad it hurt cuz practice would hurt um [00:29:28] but I just wouldn't go the extra mile at [00:29:31] all I would run with the kids in the [00:29:34] middle of the pack during practice and [00:29:37] then I I wouldn't be the top finisher in [00:29:40] practice either I wouldn't push myself [00:29:43] to like extreme lengths or anything I [00:29:45] just went through the motions and then I [00:29:47] just uh went to the race and then I was [00:29:49] able to perform Better Than People on [00:29:52] race day but it wasn't because of like [00:29:53] the extra work I was putting in and then [00:29:56] I think you you said this yesterday but [00:29:58] you would see me in practice just [00:30:00] running with the middle of the pack just [00:30:01] kind of like goofing around instead of [00:30:03] like pushing and being uh just like [00:30:06] being a leader I guess and just giving [00:30:09] your best giving my best I would never [00:30:11] do that yeah cuz losers do that I don't [00:30:14] know what I thought but the weekend [00:30:16] would roll around the our coach Chase [00:30:18] Wells he would give us okay guys you got [00:30:20] to do eight miles this weekend just by [00:30:22] yourself you know get some mileage on [00:30:24] the legs never once did I do that didn't [00:30:27] even think about crossed my mind I was [00:30:28] like I'm going to go to the gym and lift [00:30:30] yeah and just goof around with my cousin [00:30:33] honestly so just thinking about that and [00:30:37] I was like man if I was in high school [00:30:38] now I would run to school and get that [00:30:41] in before everyone else and then run [00:30:43] back after school just getting like cuz [00:30:45] we lived about four miles away just so [00:30:48] that I could act like get the most out [00:30:50] of myself yeah cuz I I have that mindset [00:30:53] now but and that's what you were trying [00:30:55] to instill in us but we just as kids [00:30:57] it's really hard to find that yeah but [00:31:00] if you can find it for any kids [00:31:02] listening out there you will be an [00:31:03] absolute Savage well and I think we've [00:31:06] talked about this or may maybe just us [00:31:09] but you guys did do more than most kids [00:31:12] like up until then like that's why you [00:31:15] had the school records because I would [00:31:16] have you guys run when you were young [00:31:19] and um so you were outworking people [00:31:22] before that but then in high school it's [00:31:24] tough because then [00:31:26] kids for most parents when kids before [00:31:30] they get to high school they'll do it [00:31:32] pretty much do whatever you say cuz they [00:31:33] got no choice and they're scared of you [00:31:35] so just like no you're doing this I [00:31:37] don't care what you think but when high [00:31:39] school then they started getting making [00:31:41] their own decisions a little bit and [00:31:43] then you can tell them and they'll [00:31:45] sometimes kids will just be like I would [00:31:48] have done that but since you told me to [00:31:50] I'm not going to yeah exactly so it's [00:31:52] kind of just it's just this butting head [00:31:54] say that this happens especially well [00:31:57] probably with all is but young men want [00:32:00] to get to this place where they can make [00:32:01] their own decisions be their own person [00:32:04] or whatever so then yeah not listening [00:32:06] to your parents is kind of like a right [00:32:08] of passage Almost sure so I get that I [00:32:11] mean Tanner I did get him to start [00:32:15] putting in more work in basketball [00:32:18] because I just said that if you do what [00:32:20] everybody else does you're just going to [00:32:22] be average you know yeah I mean you you [00:32:25] told us that over and over and over [00:32:27] again yeah so I said we got to do more [00:32:29] and Tanner he started a lifting and then [00:32:32] would shoot three-pointers after [00:32:33] practice every day and he got he's you [00:32:36] know really good as a senior but it was [00:32:38] because of doing more work than others [00:32:40] that's what's hard that's what's hard to [00:32:42] to uh that's a tough lesson it is but if [00:32:46] you can pick that up as a kid and [00:32:48] recognize that uh more work more [00:32:51] discipline leads to a brighter future [00:32:54] and also better results that's a [00:32:56] valuable lesson that trans Ates to [00:32:58] everything in life yeah I'm excited to [00:33:00] announce a new sponsor to the podcast [00:33:03] element element was created by former [00:33:05] do you remember like when I'd say [00:35:07] that stuff to you what would you guys [00:35:14] think well usually putting in more work [00:35:18] meant something that we didn't want to [00:35:20] do yeah you know you just kind of want [00:35:22] to hang hang around and and goof around [00:35:24] with other kids cuz honestly I didn't [00:35:26] really know any other kids that were [00:35:28] doing that mhm so I kind of felt like it [00:35:30] was unfair like it was an unfair ask and [00:35:33] I just remember thinking like I just [00:35:34] want to be like the rest of the kids you [00:35:36] know kind of hang out in high school [00:35:39] there's like parties going on rather go [00:35:41] and do that than than whatever the heck [00:35:43] you have designed for us just I don't [00:35:46] know we I think I just got a little bit [00:35:48] burnt out on the whole thing yeah then [00:35:50] would you and Tanner like in your [00:35:52] bedroom say dad's making [00:35:55] us I hate dad [00:35:58] yeah I mean probably [00:36:01] no I all that I knew is that we didn't [00:36:04] want to do your design mhm yeah I mean [00:36:09] so now I can appreciate it because my [00:36:11] mindset is in the right place and I want [00:36:14] it for myself but when your dad is the [00:36:17] only one that wants it for you I don't [00:36:18] know I don't think it works yeah it [00:36:20] usually doesn't work mhm [00:36:23] H yeah um well now you've come back to [00:36:27] it so now you have these huge goals you [00:36:30] got the one knocked off and right now [00:36:33] you got this video series out chasing [00:36:35] 230 or what's it called what's the video [00:36:39] sub 230 in 2025 or die okay there you go [00:36:44] um so that's the goal you did 242 in [00:36:48] Austin in jeans on a hilly windy course [00:36:51] y so we're thinking under ideal [00:36:54] situations with this extra workload with [00:36:57] you know is whatever you can say [00:36:59] whatever you want but need to get [00:37:01] lighter um yeah with reduced body weight [00:37:05] with uh you know you I mean you got [00:37:09] everything going because this is [00:37:10] basically your job now yeah so you're [00:37:12] training you're eating per trying to eat [00:37:14] perfect not you don't always eat perfect [00:37:16] every day yeah but putting in the [00:37:18] training getting the Sleep doing [00:37:20] everything with the goal of sub 230 [00:37:23] which is 543 right for a marathon [00:37:28] so how does that how's it feel what's [00:37:32] the likelihood of that happening what do [00:37:34] you think how are you feeling well I [00:37:36] have a lot of races so I have a lot of [00:37:38] opportunity this year for sure but yeah [00:37:42] what it comes down to is you got to and [00:37:45] it comes back to like the pull-ups [00:37:47] that's all that I wanted it was just [00:37:49] focusing on that half a year every [00:37:52] single day would wake up and be like I [00:37:53] got to get better at this I got to get [00:37:55] better at this so it has to be the same [00:37:57] thing for well it was 5 years but sure [00:38:01] kind of four and a half of almost the [00:38:04] high school effort I mean maybe more [00:38:06] you're doing more but not like the last [00:38:09] six months effort right so you you still [00:38:12] even though you're an adult and you've [00:38:13] learned all these lessons from when [00:38:15] you're a kid and wish you would have [00:38:16] done this you still had to learn that [00:38:18] lesson yourself of I got to flip this [00:38:19] switch yep and that's only [00:38:22] been I mean you you've trained you've [00:38:24] always trained hard but a lot of people [00:38:27] train hard there's a lot of guys at the [00:38:29] gym right now that look like you know in [00:38:32] great shape but there's a big difference [00:38:35] between training and and looking like [00:38:37] you're in good shape and doing amazing [00:38:40] performing amazing things sure you know [00:38:42] so it still only last 6 months is when [00:38:44] you really wrapped it up right yep yeah [00:38:47] that's when I I really honed in on it [00:38:50] and then was giving my absolute all to [00:38:52] where like I didn't think that there was [00:38:54] anything extra I could do and that's [00:38:58] that's how you get to that level is when [00:39:00] you're like I really didn't skip out on [00:39:02] any days and I didn't leave any [00:39:04] variables out there like that I didn't [00:39:07] try to make myself better at so what [00:39:09] changed I mean why why why were you more [00:39:13] committed than almost anybody and then [00:39:15] the last six month six months even [00:39:18] another level what [00:39:20] changed it's kind of like what option do [00:39:22] I really have there's things that we're [00:39:26] just naturally good at and like there's [00:39:31] ways yeah not to sound like overly [00:39:33] dramatic but like for survival it's like [00:39:36] so if this is my job and this is what I [00:39:38] do then how could I not show up every [00:39:41] single day and give my absolute all it's [00:39:43] like this world record I wanted to have [00:39:46] nothing holding me back no excuses and [00:39:50] then so why would I not give my absolute [00:39:53] all towards this mhm and then so like [00:39:55] that's why I quit my job is so that I [00:39:57] could focus solely on that fact because [00:40:00] the kid before me who had the 9250 [00:40:03] that's all that he did and then so I was [00:40:05] like I really don't like the idea of me [00:40:08] not having that option and uh me not [00:40:10] being able to give my absolute all [00:40:12] towards it because I said that this is [00:40:13] what I want to do so I don't want to be [00:40:15] embarrassed so I made it to where even [00:40:19] playing field this is what I'm going to [00:40:21] do now and I think that I can go further [00:40:24] than you and then so it was just like [00:40:26] you know it's it's my wife and I I want [00:40:28] to take care of her and um she's my [00:40:31] motivation in that sense to where I was [00:40:33] like I need to make sure that I do this [00:40:35] because it's a big sacrifice for us to [00:40:37] take this risk and I'm going to make [00:40:39] sure that we made the right decision [00:40:42] yeah cuz critics could say well you quit [00:40:46] a job now you just do all you do is [00:40:48] train full-time and so that's why you [00:40:51] can do this but for most people [00:40:55] 99.9999 they could quit their job and [00:40:59] they still wouldn't do amazing things [00:41:02] and I'm not saying that they're wrong I think [00:41:05] um um yeah you open yourself up to [00:41:08] criticism when you have like a weird [00:41:10] goal like that M it's just it's what I [00:41:13] wanted to do you know like there's a lot [00:41:15] of people you can do whatever you want [00:41:18] with your life and I I don't think that [00:41:19] I'll ever offer criticism or critique it [00:41:22] or try to give you advice on on what I [00:41:24] think you should do that's what I wanted [00:41:26] to do [00:41:28] um my wife and I decided that's what we [00:41:30] wanted to do and then so we went and [00:41:32] made it happen and gave our absolute all [00:41:34] towards it so I mean yeah that's we made [00:41:38] it happen but yeah it was a different [00:41:39] level of motivation because it was it [00:41:42] was like either I do this or I don't eat [00:41:45] type of deal so I guess the biggest [00:41:48] change was quitting your job to go [00:41:49] full-time in on MH chasing stuff like [00:41:52] this and then there's a risk like okay [00:41:54] well how am I going to make money now [00:41:56] yeah so you have have to you almost have [00:41:59] to achieve these amazing things for [00:42:01] sponsors to say yeah we okay we'll pay [00:42:04] you this much a month or a year or [00:42:07] whatever else but that's only when [00:42:10] you're doing incredible things people [00:42:11] care about and they're paying attention [00:42:13] to and those sponsors or advertisers [00:42:16] have these eyeballs on them because of [00:42:18] you so there is pressure to perform [00:42:20] pretty much every day yep a [00:42:23] job and people can what dismiss whatever [00:42:26] it doesn't matter but when your job is to [00:42:29] perform that's [00:42:31] hard because [00:42:34] basically there's one way to succeed one [00:42:38] thing you did what you said and a [00:42:39] million ways to fail yeah it's true I [00:42:42] could have got hurt I could have tore [00:42:44] something something could have went [00:42:45] wrong or maybe I wasn't I didn't put in [00:42:48] the level of dedication that was [00:42:50] necessary and then then what are you [00:42:53] you're just a guy who failed again yeah [00:42:55] cuz every everybody says I worked my ass [00:42:57] off I gave all I could nobody knows [00:43:00] right nobody really knows everybody says [00:43:03] that but only they know if they actually [00:43:05] did that mhm you have you said you did [00:43:08] it and you proved it cuz you did you did [00:43:11] the thing but yeah that's a that's a [00:43:13] tough one because [00:43:14] nobody the only person that knows is the [00:43:17] guy looking back in the mirror and [00:43:19] sometimes you can even lie to that guy [00:43:22] you can and people do all the time and I [00:43:23] have to myself before remember in 2023 [00:43:27] when all I could do was 4,000 the record [00:43:29] was 8,000 and I remember telling you I [00:43:31] was like this is going to be easy the [00:43:33] night before I really believed that and [00:43:35] that was a lie obviously I telling [00:43:37] myself I was like yeah I don't I don't [00:43:39] need to do more than 200 in a day I [00:43:40] should be fine MH and I seriously [00:43:43] believe that I thought that I gave my [00:43:44] all I was like yeah I've been doing this [00:43:46] for years I should be fine that's a big [00:43:48] lie yeah and then so this time around it [00:43:51] was like like I said there was there was [00:43:54] no doubt and I think with [00:43:58] with a normal job a lot of the times you [00:44:01] can kind of hide behind blame other [00:44:03] people for like why maybe the company is [00:44:07] not doing well or you can shift blame [00:44:10] for maybe for your job and it's it's not [00:44:13] like ever just directed solely towards [00:44:16] you A lot of the times like if you work [00:44:18] on a team environment like on a [00:44:20] marketing team which is what I did um to [00:44:24] where like someone's just looking right [00:44:25] at you the entire day and then seeing if [00:44:28] you can perform the task at hand whereas [00:44:30] the pull-ups it literally is that I [00:44:33] can't hide behind anyone else it is just [00:44:35] me there and then it's like well can you [00:44:37] do it and thankfully I was able to do it [00:44:40] but I kind of like that pressure and [00:44:42] just a sole responsibility of everything [00:44:44] being directly on me [00:44:46] mhm yep yeah it's not easy it's uh and I [00:44:52] think there's you know you mentioned [00:44:53] your wife Alicia earlier but I do remember [00:44:58] so there's some there's something that [00:45:00] guys need to understand if your wife [00:45:04] isn't on the same page if you're married [00:45:05] your wife isn't on the same page as far [00:45:07] as going after crazy goals like this or [00:45:10] even like being a hunter like me [00:45:14] um if it if she was like you say I got [00:45:18] to go to the gym I got to do whatever [00:45:20] I'm going to go train for a couple hours [00:45:22] and it's like [00:45:23] again how when are you going to be you [00:45:25] know it's like then that's [00:45:27] but she's been like okay yeah you got to [00:45:30] put in this work did you eat first did [00:45:33] you do this and that's how Trac has been [00:45:34] with me too with the hunting is uh so [00:45:39] basically couldn't I don't think I could [00:45:41] have done what I've done without a wife [00:45:43] like that I don't know if you could have [00:45:47] I don't no I doubt it but what I remember [00:45:51] is it's a little different for a wife to [00:45:55] um in because if you [00:45:58] fail that hurts but you're in control of [00:46:02] that when you fail that first time that [00:46:06] hurt her and she couldn't do anything [00:46:08] about it so I remember going around the [00:46:11] corner there and saying I can't remember [00:46:13] if you were there but I know I was [00:46:14] talking to her and I just said it's not [00:46:17] going to happen today and she was just [00:46:19] like oh just okay so well does he need [00:46:21] to take a break and should he eat and [00:46:23] see and and I was just [00:46:25] like it's not going to happen today yeah [00:46:28] it's not happening today it's over and [00:46:31] she was crying and [00:46:34] that's she wants it as bad as you and [00:46:37] can't do anything about it m that's [00:46:40] that's intense but when that's working [00:46:44] and you're doing all you can she's [00:46:46] helping support you and believing in you [00:46:48] with all she has that's where magic [00:46:50] happens yeah and it would be a [00:46:52] disservice to her if I didn't put my [00:46:55] best foot forward every single day [00:46:56] training you know to where like if I [00:46:59] made her feel that way again I think as [00:47:01] a husband you kind of you need to [00:47:03] protect your wife cuz you guys are on [00:47:04] the same team and she's giving me her [00:47:07] all I need to give my all to her as well [00:47:09] and that in that sense for the pull-up [00:47:12] record it was like I got to bust my ass [00:47:14] every single day so that we don't feel [00:47:16] helpless again like that yeah yeah but [00:47:18] yeah to your point absolutely could not [00:47:21] have done it without her and I can say [00:47:23] for certainty you could not have done [00:47:25] what you've done with your life without [00:47:26] mom for sure [00:47:29] hater no I mean it it's incredible she's [00:47:33] yeah yeah Mom's incredible Alicia's [00:47:36] incredible um I mean what do they say [00:47:38] behind every great man is a much greater [00:47:42] woman in our cases I think it's BS yeah [00:47:46] I think that's what they no I'm just [00:47:47] kidding um yeah it's uh I think that [00:47:50] goes I think that doesn't get said [00:47:52] enough but uh oh and then what I will [00:47:55] say is that reminds me [00:47:57] for like husbands listening your wife is [00:48:01] watching you and so I I thought about [00:48:03] this I did the murf a few years ago um [00:48:08] you know like the mile MH 100 pull-ups [00:48:11] 200 push-ups yeah with the weight vest [00:48:13] on and Alicia was there watching me I [00:48:16] believe she was filming me for this and [00:48:19] I just remember thinking I was like cuz [00:48:22] I could kind of um it hurt really bad so [00:48:26] I could kind of like wind down a little [00:48:28] uh hold myself back from going to like [00:48:31] that red lining and um I just remember [00:48:34] thinking to myself I was like my wife is [00:48:37] watching me right now like she decided [00:48:40] to marry me out of everyone else and am [00:48:43] I going to like because it hurts so bad [00:48:46] I'm going to kind of slow down and be [00:48:47] like cut the camera and then it's like [00:48:50] she knows that I'm going to do that and [00:48:52] then how is she going to view me after [00:48:54] that so I think husbands need to not [00:48:57] take their wies for granted it's like [00:48:59] you still have a job to make them proud [00:49:03] of you and just like you're like you [00:49:05] wouldn't want to look weak in front of [00:49:07] us MH even though that we're going to [00:49:09] love you at the end of the day cuz [00:49:10] you're a dad but you need to have some like [00:49:14] self-respect to not look weak mhm and so [00:49:18] I just remember thinking that during the [00:49:19] murf I was like man I know this seems [00:49:22] like it's not that important but I want [00:49:26] to perform for her and make her realize [00:49:29] that she made the right decision by [00:49:30] being with me by not being a quitter on [00:49:32] this workout even though it's just some [00:49:34] meaningless workout at the end of the [00:49:36] day it's like they're watching you yeah yeah [00:49:41] and guys you don't really want your wife [00:49:44] going my [inaudible] husband's a [inaudible] that [00:49:47] that's that's what I'm trying to [00:49:50] say and you know that happens right or [00:49:54] yeah I mean just what I was saying is [00:49:56] like you kind of take it for granted [00:49:57] it's like oh they love me they you know [00:49:59] we share every day together it's like [00:50:02] till death do his part it's like yeah [00:50:04] but you you still got to do what you're [00:50:08] supposed to do don't be a [inaudible] yeah [00:50:12] yeah I just uh I think that yeah you do [00:50:15] a good job on your um on your videos on [00:50:19] your story of sharing that teamwork [00:50:22] aspect and I think that's a big part of [00:50:24] it because I just I've seen a lot of [00:50:26] guys it they're you know they're [00:50:28] fighting themselves on trying to achieve [00:50:30] the stuff and then they're also fighting [00:50:32] their wife [00:50:34] on doing what it takes to achieve it and [00:50:37] it just makes it impossible this is not [00:50:40] going to happen so right to get to get [00:50:43] your wife to believe in you you have to [00:50:45] give her a reason to believe in you and [00:50:47] yeah I think that's what we're talking [00:50:48] about but uh yeah so why [00:50:53] why why are we Switching gears from the [00:50:56] Pull-Ups the pullup King like the king [00:50:59] of Moab Max joliff shout out Max shout [00:51:02] out Max my stomach [00:51:04] is maybe I need to fart is that what [00:51:07] that was I don't know my stomach is [00:51:09] growling um but you're from the king of [00:51:13] pull-ups to the king of Moab shout out [00:51:16] Max to now what what's this running [00:51:19] thing why are you why are you Switching [00:51:21] gears check this out original quote to [00:51:25] give anything less than your best is to [00:51:28] sacrifice the gift I said that no that's [00:51:31] Steve Prefontaine oh but I truly believe [00:51:34] that there is a lot of untapped [00:51:37] potential with running for me and like I [00:51:40] said really H and what sucks is that no [00:51:43] one ever told me that in my entire life [00:51:45] that is a tragedy if I would have just [00:51:47] had a dad that believed in me mhm God [00:51:50] and pushed you who knows right and [00:51:52] pushed me yeah who knows what I could [00:51:55] have accomplished there but [00:51:57] I I really want to see what I can [00:51:59] accomplish there and I know it's [00:52:02] possible I'm 28 now I don't know when [00:52:06] you're running Prime must be [00:52:08] nice yeah it must be nice that I was [00:52:11] born in [00:52:12] 1996 but anyway at least you're not [00:52:15] 57 and basically dead basically dead [00:52:20] your best years are behind you except [00:52:22] you could PR by over 10 minutes but we [00:52:24] don't have to get into that if it makes [00:52:26] you uncomfortable able having big goals anyway [00:52:29] um what was I say I'm a bow hunter no [00:52:33] you said um you want to see what's what [00:52:36] you're capable of I guess with running [00:52:37] if you go all in is that is that what [00:52:39] you're saying yep if I take the same [00:52:42] mindset for the pull-ups because as of [00:52:44] right now I am the world record holder [00:52:47] for the longest pull-up endurance event [00:52:50] in the world 24hour that's what everyone [00:52:53] wants and I have that right now like [00:52:55] when you look up most pull-ups in 24 [00:52:57] hours my name comes [00:52:59] up so that's kind of like a a done deal [00:53:02] right there the marathon business I [00:53:06] think as we just saw 242 I started to [00:53:10] run consistently last January and you [00:53:13] haven't even had like tons of mile miles [00:53:17] no big mileage weeks really I mean you [00:53:19] did your first mile week but that was [00:53:22] with a 50 mile day but generally it's [00:53:23] been like 50 60 miles a week yeah yeah [00:53:27] the first time hitting 200 Mes in a [00:53:30] month was this January so just a couple [00:53:33] months ago mhm and I I believe that [00:53:36] comes out to like a little over 7 miles [00:53:38] a day on average [00:53:41] mhm oh I guess a little bit under [00:53:43] actually um but anyway so I just have [00:53:46] not been putting on a lot of mileage cuz [00:53:47] the main thing was the pull-ups mhm and [00:53:50] it's never my main thing has never been [00:53:52] running no matter how hard you tried it [00:53:54] never really was I think just because of [00:53:56] like run runs like [00:53:57] yesterday 170 beats per minute 6 Minute [00:54:00] flat miles on usually is what we were [00:54:03] running it hurts so damn bad sometimes [00:54:06] mhm you know how hard it is to find that [00:54:08] motivation too by yourself yeah when you [00:54:11] have a training partner like we did [00:54:12] yesterday it makes it easier and you can [00:54:14] cope because you have someone pushing [00:54:16] you and you don't want to look like a [00:54:17] [inaudible] to that person really is what it [00:54:19] comes down [00:54:20] to but running is hard and it makes like [00:54:24] fatigue makes cowards of a [00:54:26] all so I've always kind of shied away [00:54:29] from that but now I want to take that [00:54:32] head on and see what I'm truly capable [00:54:34] of and that's why this year I want to go [00:54:36] under sub uh [00:54:38] 230 and I think that I really can I have [00:54:41] eight and a half months to get that goal [00:54:44] like you said it's 543 per mile that's [00:54:46] going quick but I really think that [00:54:49] there's so [00:54:51] much potential that that I really do [00:54:53] have that I haven't tapped into and I I [00:54:55] just want to like squeeze everything out [00:54:57] of me uh take the towel squeeze it out [00:55:01] see what I'm capable of and I really [00:55:03] think that I could get in the 220s and [00:55:05] then who knows after that I think [00:55:08] there's something beautiful to like how [00:55:10] you said it like ringing [00:55:12] out whatever the tal ringing out every [00:55:15] ounce of talent you have essentially is [00:55:18] what you what you're trying to get [00:55:19] There's Something Beautiful about that [00:55:21] giving all you have to one certain thing [00:55:25] and just seeing where that gets you you [00:55:26] and it's just like it is it's a big ask [00:55:30] it's a big or it's big to say it it's [00:55:31] big to put in the work to do that to be [00:55:33] like I'm going to this is going to hurt [00:55:36] but I'm giving it everything but that [00:55:39] that's to me that's honoring the gift of [00:55:41] life because if we're not doing that [00:55:44] what are we doing what do we what are we [00:55:48] doing with this if we have a god-given [00:55:50] ability like I've thought I always [00:55:52] thought you've had with running what are [00:55:54] we doing if we're not honoring that to [00:55:57] to the highest [00:55:59] level it's like you're kind of taking [00:56:01] life for granted or taking your gifts [00:56:03] for granted so I think there's something [00:56:06] I think there's something amazing about [00:56:08] yeah I want to see how far I can take [00:56:10] this yep it's going to be rough but [00:56:14] that's okay yep I know and so I have a [00:56:19] lot of opportunity because I have we [00:56:21] have the Boston Marathon next month and [00:56:24] then I signed up for the Deseret News [00:56:27] Marathon which is July that's in Utah [00:56:31] and then I have the Huntsville marathon [00:56:33] in September and then the New York City [00:56:36] marathon in November so that's quite a [00:56:39] few races and then a couple net [00:56:42] downhills if I really wanted to see what [00:56:45] I can do um it's it's at elevation which [00:56:47] makes it a little bit more difficult but [00:56:49] what the net downhill races yeah yeah [00:56:51] both of them but I think that a pretty [00:56:54] good gut check is going to be Boston [00:56:56] Marathon next month M and just see what [00:56:58] I can do there um I'm hoping for sub 240 [00:57:02] M and then after yesterday's 18 Mile [00:57:05] that we did a 619 average pace with a [00:57:08] 730 thrown in there just to warm up [00:57:10] that's that's a dang good run mhm so if [00:57:13] we can um do that obviously like that be [00:57:16] considered a tempo run but if I can run [00:57:18] six Flats at Boston with the crowd going [00:57:21] actually drink water water we didn't [00:57:23] have any water during that run yesterday [00:57:25] I I think that we could get both of us [00:57:28] honestly right around like 240 if not [00:57:30] under it [00:57:32] so me mhm no three hours for me no try [00:57:37] to finish yeah there you go not even [00:57:39] three hours now yeah no it's uh that [00:57:42] that' be awesome I just uh I think [00:57:45] that's going to happen for sure I think [00:57:47] given your progression and the amount of [00:57:49] work you've done and now you've done [00:57:50] more work and I think there's also [00:57:53] something cool about when you can change [00:57:55] your body [00:57:56] to adapt to the challenge that you're [00:57:59] facing before it was you wanted to get [00:58:01] light but still have that these muscles [00:58:03] for pull-ups now you're trying to [00:58:05] transform a little bit hopefully lose a [00:58:07] little muscle up top gain some strength [00:58:09] in the legs lose some body weight um [00:58:13] there's you know not trying to body [00:58:15] shame anybody but uh a great Runner [00:58:18] Olympian Runner just told me that his [00:58:20] coach used to tell him when it comes [00:58:22] down to running all he wants to see is [00:58:24] Dick and ribs so it's like that's uh [00:58:27] nothing else helps the light the lighter [00:58:29] you can be then the faster you're going [00:58:32] to go um of course we're not trying to [00:58:34] be unhealthy but it's a body weight is a [00:58:37] big part [00:58:38] of performing at a high level with [00:58:41] running it's efficiency yeah you got to [00:58:44] be efficient you got but you got you [00:58:46] can't be malnourished of course so but [00:58:49] you got a lot you got a lot where you [00:58:51] could tweak and I think there's [00:58:52] something cool about I've always tried [00:58:54] to do that like I remember I was up to [00:58:56] 190 before just lifting and barely [00:58:58] running just wanted to see it change my [00:59:00] body then it was like I'd been at 150 up [00:59:02] to 190 now I'm back now this morning I [00:59:05] was 159 so it's it's like there's [00:59:08] something cool about manipulating your [00:59:10] body to achieve whatever goal you have [00:59:12] and for me it's always been bow hunting [00:59:14] but now it's been a little bit this [00:59:16] running thing because I've had since I [00:59:18] retired now I can get a little more rest [00:59:20] a little more maintenance and it's it's [00:59:23] just man it's great to your body [00:59:25] responds I think is the [00:59:27] point one person that gave me some [00:59:30] inspiration during trying to lose weight [00:59:32] for the pull-ups get down cuz I've [00:59:34] always liked being around like 180 kind [00:59:36] of just feels good I can eat whatever I [00:59:37] want all throughout the day feel kind of [00:59:39] jacked and strong obviously that's not [00:59:42] good for pull-ups but it just made me [00:59:44] feel good about myself MH when I started [00:59:46] to lose weight I had Christian Bale and [00:59:50] The Machinist in the back of my mind you [00:59:51] talk to him and I talk to him every day [00:59:55] yep Batman [00:59:56] yeah no but he was like 200 lb around [01:00:00] 200 lb he got down to [01:00:01] 118 you want to talk about unhealthy [01:00:03] that's unhealthy all that he would eat [01:00:05] is a can of sardines an apple and smoke [01:00:07] cigarettes how but you know how hard it [01:00:10] is to L intentionally and not be like a [01:00:13] drug addict but lose that much weight [01:00:17] I'm it is insane I mean because we are [01:00:20] so used to not having any hunger pain at [01:00:23] all most people never go to bed hungry [01:00:25] for sure [01:00:26] go to bed hungry but even throughout the [01:00:28] day MH they don't even let themselves [01:00:30] feel hungry it's so uncomfortable it's [01:00:31] all consuming your mind um like when you [01:00:35] fast for religious purposes that's they [01:00:38] do that because it is all consuming like [01:00:40] you're almost a slave to food so it's [01:00:42] like that's why it's such a big deal if [01:00:44] you're able to do it for longer than [01:00:46] even like a couple days like you're not [01:00:48] going to die but your body is so [01:00:50] accustomed to just filling your mouth [01:00:52] full of food even when you don't need it [01:00:54] to where if you don't have it you're on [01:00:56] a restrictive uh calorie diet and if you [01:01:00] want to lose weight like that for me I [01:01:02] think it was 15 lbs total it's freaking [01:01:05] hard yeah it actually is hard especially [01:01:07] if you want to perform on top of it but [01:01:09] so I had him in the back of my mind [01:01:11] because he was able to do that and I was [01:01:12] like if he can do that I could drop 15 [01:01:15] lbs mhm no big deal so I think it is [01:01:18] cool to make your body ready for the [01:01:19] task you just like him like for his [01:01:22] roles he's got he's gone the opposite [01:01:25] way he's made him made himself fat for a [01:01:26] role he made himself obviously 118 made [01:01:29] himself jacked for uh Patrick baitman [01:01:32] American Psycho so it's just you know if [01:01:35] you can make yourself ready for whatever [01:01:36] task that you're giv your absolute all [01:01:38] towards I have a lot of respect for that [01:01:41] mhm yeah and what was your way to lose [01:01:44] weight were was it roughly burning 4,000 [01:01:47] eating three or what was it yeah yeah it [01:01:49] was right around there so I would like [01:01:51] burn 4,000 throughout the day eat 3,000 [01:01:53] just extremely clean kind of cut myself [01:01:56] off around like 700 p.m. so you'd eat [01:01:59] youd get your calories in before you [01:02:01] worked out so you weren't necessarily [01:02:03] training fasted right no wer it's hard [01:02:06] to do that yeah and so ideally in a [01:02:10] situation like that you would have made [01:02:11] up those calories at night so your body [01:02:14] could recover re and refuel and um [01:02:18] protein obviously helps your body [01:02:19] recover and that's what people at night [01:02:22] do which if you're training hard fine [01:02:25] fine your body's using it most people [01:02:28] aren't training hard so that's all just [01:02:29] extra calories but um so you were [01:02:32] training after you ate though but still [01:02:35] that recovery at night wasn't happening [01:02:38] because you didn't give your body the [01:02:39] fuel right before rest essentially like [01:02:42] a dinner I would still have like 250 [01:02:45] gram of protein so like I was getting my [01:02:47] protein in the calories just it it [01:02:49] wasn't imagine how much I was burning [01:02:51] because I wanted to lose the fat I [01:02:52] wanted to lose the weight and that's [01:02:53] exactly what I was able to do um um [01:02:56] thankfully so it it worked out extremely [01:02:58] well I would have like majority of my [01:03:01] carbs throughout the day in the morning [01:03:03] mhm um and then I would obviously do [01:03:05] like thousands of pull-ups burn it all [01:03:06] and then just kind of get enough in my [01:03:09] body to make sure that I wasn't just [01:03:13] like losing a bunch of muscle on top of [01:03:15] it to whereas like usually well without [01:03:17] protein you're not going to lose much [01:03:19] muscle for sure yeah yeah so it was just [01:03:22] you know being comfortable being [01:03:25] uncomfortable yeah and when you have [01:03:28] like a set goal in mind and you have a [01:03:30] Finish Line in mind you're able to [01:03:31] stomach it a lot better rather than if [01:03:33] it was like 247 yeah 247 is hard to do I [01:03:36] mean Alicia my wife she does that like [01:03:39] she's able to handle that really well [01:03:41] because she like your body really [01:03:43] doesn't need that much food like you [01:03:45] said if you're not burning a bunch yeah [01:03:47] but it's that's hard to stomach for a [01:03:49] lot of people they it's hard like so I I [01:03:52] usually go you know get up I I do all my [01:03:55] stuff you know know whatever we still [01:03:56] got I still got quote work to do um go [01:04:00] in a long run eat and then like in the [01:04:04] evening where normally I just might look [01:04:06] for something watch substance on TV [01:04:09] watch American primeval or no am [01:04:13] primeval wait what was that uh Primal is [01:04:17] yeah I know what you're American [01:04:19] primeval yeah uh but whatever but [01:04:21] normally be watching whatever and I want [01:04:24] to eat something cuz that's what what [01:04:25] you do when you watch TV but lately cuz [01:04:28] I'm trying to get down to under 160 I'm [01:04:30] just sitting [01:04:32] there that's fun is this what people do [01:04:36] they just sit here and don't eat don't eat [01:04:40] popcorn it's weird it is so hard when [01:04:43] you're used to eating snacks every night [01:04:45] even if just apples and peanut butter or [01:04:47] I used to eat a lot of nuts pistachios [01:04:51] lot of calories oh God and you don't [01:04:53] even realize it no you can just sit [01:04:55] there can eat like a whole bowl of of [01:04:58] pistachios pop them you know break the [01:05:01] shell eat them whatever and it's like [01:05:03] who knows how many calories that is [01:05:06] 2,000 yeah and I'm watching TV eating [01:05:09] all those calories so it's uh when you [01:05:12] don't do it's not [01:05:15] super I mean it's not like you don't [01:05:19] have to overthink it it's pretty damn [01:05:21] easy but it's so hard to implement [01:05:24] simple doesn't mean easy yeah and I I [01:05:27] mean a lot of respect to the UFC [01:05:28] fighters that do that like Alex Pereira [01:05:31] I I cannot believe that what does he [01:05:34] walk around at 220 yeah and gets down to [01:05:37] well I think now he's been has he been H [01:05:40] oh light heavy but he was getting down [01:05:41] to 185 so he's like 40 lbs yeah that is [01:05:45] I don't think people realize how insane [01:05:47] that is yeah so that is that is freaking [01:05:49] hard to do cuz yeah I was I was walking [01:05:52] around like 185 and he's like 6'4 mhm [01:05:56] I'm not 6'4 no no well I mean I'd have [01:05:59] to check again but I don't think I'm 6'4 [01:06:01] no uh am I 6'4 oh no I'm 5'4 that's okay [01:06:06] I knew I knew there's a four in there [01:06:09] yeah now speaking of 54 Matt Johnson [01:06:11] you're going down at [01:06:13] Leadville yeah I like this uh yeah so [01:06:18] there's like this I guess you guys are [01:06:20] influencers I don't know [inaudible] I the [01:06:22] battle of the influencers man that [01:06:24] sounds cool [01:06:26] he's like a running influencer but it's [01:06:29] all fun it's you know hey it's healthy I [01:06:31] mean he's running he he's like doing a [01:06:34] great job running but you guys have [01:06:36] this well I haven't heard him mention it [01:06:40] much but I hear you mention it a lot but [01:06:43] like this little head-to-head uh so he's [01:06:46] doing Leadville you say you're going to [01:06:48] beat him I don't know does he say he's [01:06:50] going to beat you he probably says he's [01:06:51] going to win I think he says that he's [01:06:53] going to set the course record or [01:06:55] something like that but no his goal is [01:06:56] sub 18 hours he's being coached by Zach [01:06:59] bidder yeah that that doesn't hurt that [01:07:01] doesn't Hur Zach's a stud he's yeah he's [01:07:04] a stud for sure but yeah so I think top [01:07:06] 10 is sub 18 is that that's where he [01:07:09] would he would land M but so that's his [01:07:11] goal my goal is to beat him okay so that [01:07:15] that's that's a good goal if that [01:07:16] happens to be in the top 10 then so be [01:07:19] it but yeah but I guess we'll find out I [01:07:21] mean we have five months about yeah [01:07:25] should probably consider getting in [01:07:26] shape for that not too worried about it [01:07:29] what uh so what's your weight goal to [01:07:32] try to break 2:30 in the marathon what [01:07:34] are you thinking you need to get to I [01:07:36] would say right around your weight about [01:07:38] like 160 yeah I haven't been that light [01:07:41] since high school but if I could get [01:07:43] down to that that's just cuz right now I [01:07:46] mean I weighed myself today I was in [01:07:48] clothes but I was like 175 that's why [01:07:50] your fat ass was dragging [01:07:53] yesterday I know yeah it it it really [01:07:56] does come on big boy you can do it it [01:07:59] makes a difference though you're like [01:08:01] keeping your legs apart cuz your thighs [01:08:03] were probably just getting all chaed [01:08:05] yeah and I mean I know the whole deal [01:08:07] with hybrid athletes is well I look [01:08:09] badass though when I'm running it's like [01:08:11] you don't look that badass when you're [01:08:12] huffing and puffing way back there dude [01:08:15] yeah when you're holding your side yeah [01:08:17] or like running a 340 Marathon isn't as [01:08:20] cool as you think even if you're jacked [01:08:21] it's just like I don't know what are we [01:08:23] doing we're there to compete yeah [01:08:26] so um yeah if I could get down to like [01:08:29] 160 I think that I could really really [01:08:31] make 230 possible yeah it's crazy [01:08:35] how I mean it's not crazy but if you I [01:08:38] mean if you think about it it shouldn't [01:08:39] be crazy but the way I feel at 160 [01:08:42] compared to [01:08:44] 170 so much faster but it's 10 lbs every [01:08:48] step 10 lbs is a lot it's it's the same [01:08:51] exact concept with the pull-ups yeah [01:08:53] pulling yourself up if if you're 180 [01:08:56] vers 170 it's 100,000 lb for 10,000 reps [01:08:59] extra and who told you that little [01:09:00] secret David gogin shout out to the [01:09:03] legend I know yeah so what do we have to [01:09:06] say about Goin you mentioned you mentioned [01:09:10] make what' you say make comfortable [01:09:13] uncomfortable or make uncomfortable [01:09:14] comfortable yeah make being or be [01:09:17] comfortable being [01:09:19] uncomfortable no make make being [01:09:23] uncomfortable comfortable yeah [01:09:26] well but that's from The Man David Gog [01:09:30] so give me give me something what is [01:09:32] what is David offered [01:09:34] you well I didn't realize this but I was [01:09:37] just looking at badwater and I think he [01:09:40] got third one year mhm and he ran 130 m [01:09:43] in 25 hours mhm and it's hot as hell [01:09:47] there mhm does it get up to like 120 or [01:09:49] 135 or 130 even hot as hell and that [01:09:54] after that one that was where they had [01:09:56] the interview and we got Macy we got to [01:09:58] look this up but anyway they got the [01:10:00] interview I didn't even notice it is [01:10:02] what he says yeah yeah they like what [01:10:03] did you think of the Heat or how is the [01:10:05] heat out there he's like didn't notice [01:10:09] bin anything out there that says Death [01:10:11] Valley special well I beat my time by 4 [01:10:14] hours and some change yeah I I didn't see [01:10:19] anything I didn't get to experience the [01:10:22] whole spiritual side of the the desert [01:10:25] it'll sink in over the next few weeks it [01:10:27] will as it right now I don't know what [01:10:29] you're talking [01:10:31] about it's like so epic yeah I what's [01:10:35] crazy is he didn't know that Instagram [01:10:36] was even going to be a thing then but [01:10:38] that's a good edit right there right [01:10:40] there that's a freaking mic drop cuz he [01:10:42] just like didn't notice it I think he [01:10:43] may have looked at the camera but just being [01:10:46] like yeah no that's I mean that's just [01:10:48] how he is you can't really manufacture [01:10:50] that no you either have it or you don't [01:10:53] he's got it he's got it well he made him [01:10:55] get it mhm he made himself get it for [01:10:57] sure but um now that's legit 25 hours to [01:11:01] run that cuz a lot of people it's like [01:11:02] if you can do 100 miles under 24 hours [01:11:05] then you're a beast but to run 100 like [01:11:07] 30 mil extra yeah and right around that [01:11:10] same time that's legit I didn't realize [01:11:12] cuz he's not even he's not even really [01:11:14] built as a runner like he's pretty good [01:11:17] size what we've just been talking about [01:11:18] yeah he's like 62 probably hard for him [01:11:21] to get under 180 at his size and then [01:11:24] obviously like you know his his knees [01:11:26] has have caused some problems but not [01:11:29] your stereotypical Runner when he makes [01:11:31] it happen yeah I mean I think and can't [01:11:33] hurt me he talks about I I know at least [01:11:36] one year he got in 7,000 miles in the [01:11:40] year so if you do the math it's 20 mil a [01:11:42] day every day that's a lot of miles [01:11:46] that's a lot of miles and I don't think people [01:11:50] realize what it what it takes to do 20 [01:11:53] miles every day [01:11:55] that is a lot of [01:11:57] work that's that's very consistent yeah [01:12:01] and for a whole year and I don't know [01:12:04] I'm sure it went longer than that but [01:12:06] yeah I mean gogin that's where the whole [01:12:09] um impetus to the pullup world record [01:12:11] started that's been you've been chasing [01:12:13] Goggins this whole time finally got it [01:12:16] but also you got it though with his help [01:12:20] with his coaching with his mentorship [01:12:23] calling you going over notes um giving [01:12:27] you ideas on how to break up the Reps [01:12:30] it's uh you know I don't want I'm not [01:12:32] trying to take anything away from you [01:12:34] earning that record but it made a big [01:12:36] difference having like a legend like [01:12:38] that who knows what it what it's like to [01:12:41] push that hard and knows kind of the [01:12:43] challenges you're going to face to weigh [01:12:45] in and even just mentally just it it [01:12:48] just adds to to Your Arsenal I think [01:12:51] yeah there would be even days where he [01:12:54] would call me twice mhm just like he [01:12:56] would think of something new and then [01:12:58] tell me it but he was so excited to help [01:13:00] me just because he's acquired so much [01:13:02] knowledge over all the years of pull-ups [01:13:05] and how to help yourself during this [01:13:06] record that he just wanted to share it [01:13:08] all with me because he knew that I was [01:13:09] taking it so seriously because he did a [01:13:13] little over 60,000 for when he broke the [01:13:15] record in 2013 and then I told him he [01:13:17] asked me how many I did and I was like [01:13:19] I'd have to go through the numbers and [01:13:20] so in training you're talking about in [01:13:22] training yeah and then I ended up [01:13:23] getting back to him I texted him and I [01:13:25] was like ended up doing 120,000 and then [01:13:28] so he called me and he was like [Music] [01:13:30] 120,000 and he asked how many of those [01:13:33] did you do by yourself and I said [01:13:36] 120,000 he's like that's right don't you [01:13:38] forget that that was all you and and he [01:13:42] was saying he doesn't think people [01:13:44] realize how difficult this record is to [01:13:47] train for there's nothing flashy about [01:13:50] it unless you actually go and set the [01:13:52] record all that training would have been meaningless [01:13:56] technically 120,000 reps that is a long [01:13:59] ass time yeah that is just in the garage [01:14:01] by myself um so he wanted me to be proud [01:14:04] of the fact that I that I did it that I [01:14:05] put in that level of work and that [01:14:07] people will never understand what that [01:14:08] took and how hard that was but um it's [01:14:13] two contact points that's it mhm just [01:14:16] your hands yeah and then so he was [01:14:18] saying how it was more difficult than [01:14:20] any Ultram Marathon he's ever done was [01:14:22] training for that record all like the [01:14:25] two times that he did it it's it's just [01:14:28] so mental so mental and so hard on your [01:14:31] body and then so obviously I ask him I [01:14:32] was like yeah how are your fingers [01:14:33] holding up like after all these years of [01:14:35] trending he's like you're in trouble [01:14:37] when you're older yeah yeah but uh [01:14:41] people people that play it safe like to [01:14:42] say bring that up too sure yeah but no [01:14:45] he was just he was keeping it real and [01:14:48] he definitely helped me cuz before I was [01:14:50] doing sets of 10 and then I dropped it [01:14:52] down to six after talking to him six [01:14:54] everything 30 6 every 30 10 every minute [01:14:57] yep just because you know you're on the [01:14:59] bar for 10 reps that's a long time and [01:15:02] those last yeah those last four reps [01:15:04] after the six which is where he said you [01:15:06] should get off after 30 but those last [01:15:08] four when they start to struggle that's [01:15:10] where you probably start to move your [01:15:12] hands a little bit [01:15:14] um but yeah that was that was a great [01:15:16] tip yeah doing six every 30 instead of [01:15:18] that one one every 10 or 10 every minute [01:15:22] but yeah know I was flying that that was [01:15:24] great advice yeah yeah so I mean I told [01:15:26] him I was like dang you really know your [01:15:28] stuff I was like you weren't kidding and [01:15:30] he would say that he's like I remember [01:15:33] him saying that like he know he's like [01:15:35] been through the science of it basically [01:15:37] or like thought about it so I mean he is [01:15:39] very obsessive yeah like when he gets [01:15:41] something in his [01:15:43] head it's probably all he thinks about [01:15:46] so it was that's what I say it's a huge [01:15:48] Advantage mentally if nothing else but [01:15:51] that one strategy piece was gigantic but [01:15:54] just having him on your side is man how [01:15:57] how does that not help right yeah no [01:15:59] having something like that in your [01:16:00] corner makes a huge difference and he [01:16:02] was even calling during the record yeah [01:16:04] the record day and uh given advice but [01:16:06] yeah Big shout out to goggin he's [01:16:08] absolute Legend and then now that I'm [01:16:10] shifting more into like ultramarathons I [01:16:12] just even I respect him even more just [01:16:15] because how difficult it is and how he's [01:16:17] not like your stereotypical Runner and [01:16:19] it's it's freaking hard carrying that [01:16:20] weight around yeah he'd probably have [01:16:22] some good tips on Ultras too yeah I mean [01:16:25] you you're kind of focused on on the [01:16:27] marathons for right now but you do have [01:16:29] a last man standing coming up yep you [01:16:32] didn't mention that in your other race [01:16:34] Recaps that you're going to be no no but [01:16:37] yeah that one I'm going to win obviously [01:16:41] easily yeah no people ask me because [01:16:43] they did a live drawing Lottery how I [01:16:45] got into the race and I I think I ended [01:16:48] up saying that my dad made a generous [01:16:50] donation to Nick bear that's how I got [01:16:52] in that's how you've got everything in [01:16:54] your life I yeah pretty much people [01:16:57] would probably think that yeah I'm sure [01:16:59] that they think that but yeah so uh got [01:17:02] into that race Nick was kind enough to [01:17:04] invite me out and I hope that doesn't [01:17:06] hurt people's feelings or uh if Will I [01:17:09] know um well hey just one more [01:17:13] competitor I got it I got this is a [01:17:17] little known tip I don't know if people [01:17:18] have heard before but um what camera are [01:17:21] we on must be nice 37 37 [01:17:25] life's not fair so you want to get into [01:17:28] a race like the last man standing Nick bear [01:17:31] Edition be a badass and have a good [01:17:33] following you probably get in well I [01:17:35] mean he uh he follows me and then he [01:17:38] just he saw that I put in for the race [01:17:40] paid like everyone else and then so he [01:17:42] just asked me if I want to come out and [01:17:43] I was like sure he was just like whoops you're [01:17:47] in and listen it didn't my shirt fell [01:17:49] off it didn't take away from anyone else [01:17:52] he just added me extra it took from me [01:17:55] you stole that opportunity from me you [01:17:58] you don't want [01:17:59] that you don't want to be in there I might [01:18:02] be hey Nick you got one of those wait [01:18:07] what is that with the D with the [01:18:09] Chappelle when he's like when he's like [01:18:11] got the white over his face what is he [01:18:14] after isn't like don't they have that [01:18:16] Meme where you got any more of that [01:18:19] those free entries for me are you [01:18:20] talking about [01:18:21] Anthrax no it was like Dave Chappelle he [01:18:24] like a junkie on Saturday Night Live [01:18:26] yeah Tyrone Tyrone yeah yeah so yeah you [01:18:29] got any more of that whatever so those [01:18:31] free entries Nick yeah there you [01:18:33] go so I'll be Tyrone um yeah no that's a [01:18:38] good one that those last man standings [01:18:41] are oh man whole another challenge yeah [01:18:45] that doesn't really help with marathon [01:18:49] training the [01:18:51] oon he said thanks for wearing my hat on [01:18:55] the podcast how does he know right now [01:18:56] it's live baby he's watching hey what's [01:19:00] up Theo wait no 27 3 37 oh we're still [01:19:05] oh no I have 27 what's up Theo gang gang [01:19:08] baby he did great show last night too by [01:19:12] the way and actually I was going to ask [01:19:14] you how does um how do entertainers fit [01:19:17] into the world of people like you know [01:19:20] how everyone says that like basically I [01:19:24] don't count as as a person because I [01:19:25] don't have like a regular job and [01:19:27] they're probably right but just like [01:19:30] sports entertainment actors how do you [01:19:33] think that that fits in to just the [01:19:35] world the world that we live in or like [01:19:38] theovon cuz te technically we don't need [01:19:42] entertainers entertainers right [01:19:44] comedians yeah or comedians because I [01:19:46] mean I think if you take that away what [01:19:48] happens you know what I mean yeah no I [01:19:51] think uh there's always been a place for art [01:19:55] in society oh I'm an artist artist so [01:19:59] it's uh I mean being a performer is kind [01:20:03] of art you're distracting the unruly mob [01:20:07] from their [01:20:08] misery I think that's didn't they start [01:20:11] that in Rome wasn't that for the whole [01:20:12] point for the games yeah you mean the [01:20:14] Gladiators that were slaves I don't [01:20:15] think they were necessarily influencers [01:20:17] are slaves yeah you're basically like [01:20:19] Gladiators is how I look at it yeah [01:20:22] that's right right that's a good take [01:20:24] yeah so everybody's like kill them kill [01:20:27] them all but no I mean yeah I mean I [01:20:32] think we've always society's always [01:20:34] wanted to [01:20:35] be inspired entertained uh the Arts [01:20:39] performance music it always does that so [01:20:42] Sports there's a reason why so many [01:20:44] people watch the Olympics they want to [01:20:46] see people compete and whether it's a [01:20:49] whether it is to be inspired to to chase [01:20:51] after stuff yourself or a distraction or [01:20:53] just enjoyment it's okay to watch stuff [01:20:55] and just be like hey this is I enjoy [01:20:58] this this feels good now I can do [01:21:01] whatever I get do whatever I got to do [01:21:03] but I enjoyed this you know hour or two [01:21:05] like last night I saw thousands of [01:21:07] people entertained by theovon and his [01:21:10] openers and everybody's smiling and I [01:21:13] think that's important for society so if [01:21:15] if you know you can do that and what you [01:21:17] do and people enjoy following along and [01:21:19] and it helps them like set you know [01:21:22] maybe their goal isn't to do 10,000 [01:21:24] pullups maybe to do 10 pull-ups that's [01:21:26] okay that's how we all get better right [01:21:29] yeah we all push each other and and you [01:21:32] know kind of feed off each other and [01:21:33] whether that's positive or negative I [01:21:35] guess that's you know who you're looking [01:21:37] at but for you it's a positive example [01:21:40] and that's what you're trying to set and [01:21:42] that's you know the type of people you [01:21:43] want to connect with yep is was it [01:21:46] Quincy Hall the 400 meter yeah the 16-year-old [01:21:50] kid oh oh no the guy who no it's Quincy [01:21:53] somebody who who ran the 400 but yeah [01:21:56] you're thinking of that guy who came [01:21:57] back yeah when they're like and Quincy [01:22:00] is fading badly right now on the last [01:22:03] yeah Quincy Wilson is the 16-year-old [01:22:05] but yeah Quincy Hall is the guy you're [01:22:06] talking about the 400 uh meter Olympic [01:22:10] gold Champion yeah Olympic gold Champion [01:22:14] Olympic champion or Olympic gold [01:22:16] medalist Olympic gold medalist how about [01:22:17] that but yeah so he came back from it [01:22:20] was like it's almost impossible what he [01:22:22] did yeah to be hurting that bad and [01:22:24] falling behind the last 100 met of that [01:22:26] race he's really struggling yeah and [01:22:29] he's fading badly now fading badly what [01:22:31] the announcer says and then oh my [01:22:33] goodness he he's coming back he's going [01:22:35] to make it yeah and then so he gets a [01:22:37] gold people were counting him out in the [01:22:39] last 100 meters I don't know where he [01:22:42] went mentally to find that extra gear [01:22:44] but he found it and I think that you [01:22:47] know what did he do at the end of the [01:22:49] day he just he ran around a lap yeah one [01:22:52] lap around the track one lap around the [01:22:53] track but for me personally I've thought [01:22:56] about that dozens of times just like in [01:22:58] in everyday life and it's like man if he [01:23:00] can like push like that you know how [01:23:02] much more can I give in this certain [01:23:04] task that I'm working on right now so [01:23:07] yeah I mean I I would hope that I could [01:23:09] be like that for someone else um but [01:23:12] yeah it's hard to say I mean how do [01:23:14] people measure importance of Life yeah I [01:23:17] mean there's plenty of jobs out there [01:23:19] that if people didn't do them the world [01:23:21] wouldn't stop that that doesn't mean [01:23:23] it's not important [01:23:25] you know what I mean so there are [01:23:27] doctors who save lives there are people [01:23:30] who keep the lights on and the water [01:23:31] going and those are all very important [01:23:33] but there's a lot of J jobs that serve [01:23:37] an important role that aren't like just [01:23:38] to survive and that doesn't mean they're [01:23:41] less important that just means they're [01:23:43] important in a different way [01:23:46] yeah yep so um 160 under 230 when last [01:23:53] man standing how you training for that [01:23:55] by the way well by [01:23:57] running I just did 50 miles over the [01:24:00] weekend MH right before uh getting here [01:24:03] but yeah 50 Mi I was trying to simulate [01:24:06] the race 4.2 miles on the hour every [01:24:09] hour and then so uh got to 50 miles that [01:24:13] way but yeah just time on the feet yeah [01:24:16] getting used to that trying to uh get [01:24:18] the bulletproof mindset and then [01:24:21] realizing that every single person [01:24:24] during that race is going to feel like [01:24:26] death once you get to a certain point [01:24:28] and it's just who can who can withstand [01:24:31] that the longest who's going to focus [01:24:33] their mindset on the next step rather [01:24:35] than how many more laps they have to go [01:24:37] if you can just [01:24:38] focus The Next Step The Next Step the [01:24:41] next Mile and and break it down like [01:24:43] that instead of like how much longer is [01:24:44] this race going to go for I think that's [01:24:46] how you win it it's more mental than [01:24:47] anything is Chad right doing it I I [01:24:51] heard through the great find that he was [01:24:52] doing it that'd be awesome that wouldd [01:24:54] be awesome he's a badass yep yeah I mean [01:24:57] you're going to have to get I'd say [01:24:59] you're going to have to get 120 miles [01:25:01] for sure to win can you do that yeah and [01:25:05] there's a there's a lot of hungry people [01:25:06] out there well if like do you know who [01:25:10] uh Harvey Lewis is he's like king of [01:25:13] backyard Ultras he did [01:25:17] 450 if he shows up am I am I in [01:25:21] trouble 450 yeah yeah that is nuts [01:25:25] that's a lot of days yeah I don't even [01:25:28] know how he did that no I don't know how [01:25:30] that's possible that is crazy cuz it's [01:25:32] every four hours for 24 hours is 96 [01:25:35] miles yeah okay so he did over four days no [01:25:40] sleep unless you're getting unless [01:25:42] you're finishing your lap so how it [01:25:44] works is you got an hour every hour you [01:25:46] got to be on the start line if you [01:25:48] finish your 4.2 miles in 50 minutes you [01:25:52] have 10 minutes if you finish in 59 [01:25:55] minutes you got one minute to be back on [01:25:57] the line if you finish in 30 minutes [01:25:59] which you probably blow yourself out [01:26:00] pretty quick so it's not a good idea but [01:26:01] you'd have 30 minutes but you have to be [01:26:03] on the line every hour so he was on the [01:26:05] line every hour for four over four days [01:26:09] yep they test for like cocaine or [01:26:11] anything like that I don't know what the [01:26:13] hell I don't know that'd be my only hope [01:26:16] where yeah where did where was his [01:26:19] mindset at Theo had a good joke about [01:26:22] cocaine or a bunch of them [01:26:24] he had a lot of jokes about [01:26:26] him God he's funny I love that show no [01:26:30] that's another thing that's super mental [01:26:32] I mean having to be funny for an hour [01:26:33] straight in front of thousands of people [01:26:35] and you can't stutter one time no you [01:26:38] can't be uncomfortable one time you know [01:26:40] one one time he sat up there and he was [01:26:42] just like okay so what else yeah but [01:26:46] that's that's what I would be doing [01:26:47] every minute but even then that's part [01:26:50] of his act no no he was not he didn't [01:26:52] know what he was going to say part of [01:26:54] his delivery no I know but that's um a [01:26:56] lot of people it is so mental oh man I [01:27:00] couldn't imagine for an hour straight [01:27:02] not not focus yeah that's tough that and [01:27:06] there's a lot there's a lot of variables [01:27:08] going on there's people yelling that [01:27:09] aren't supposed to people whipping out [01:27:11] their phones that's he doesn't want that [01:27:13] obviously people came you could be [01:27:16] thinking about a million different [01:27:17] things or he even forgot um part of a [01:27:20] joke that he wanted to tell he told us [01:27:22] after the fact and it's like [01:27:24] it you let that bother you in the moment [01:27:26] yeah and then just being like wait wait [01:27:28] hold on no there's another part of the [01:27:30] no go back I screwed that up yeah yeah [01:27:33] they can never do that no it's so such a [01:27:36] such an art I mean that is a real talent [01:27:40] I can't I mean to go and everybody I [01:27:43] guarantee everybody who left there was [01:27:45] like oh that was awesome and remember [01:27:47] that one part and remember when he said [01:27:49] this everybody thousands of people you [01:27:51] just made their night and they're talk [01:27:53] they talked about all day today but he [01:27:56] doesn't work a regular 9 to-5 job he [01:27:58] doesn't yeah it's not really work no [01:28:00] doesn't count no yeah it's uh I don't [01:28:03] know life's funny [01:28:05] um so peanut gallery uh [01:28:10] oh do you have anything to ask oh yeah [01:28:13] the legend the [01:28:16] Phenom um this is who's speaking here is [01:28:19] this Larry or Gideon Gideon okay Gideon [01:28:22] good to hear from you TR I'm sure you [01:28:24] don't ever watch any of the podcasts [01:28:26] that I'm on well not even that I'm on [01:28:28] was that a burp no oh okay but uh so [01:28:31] James I actually didn't know have you [01:28:33] been a guest on this show before more [01:28:34] than you what what that's insane are you an [01:28:39] outlier yeah I can be funny for an hour [01:28:42] straight yeah funny to look at well no [01:28:45] that was what I it used to be Instagram [01:28:47] with was 15 seconds when Tru first [01:28:49] started and he'd do his little funny [01:28:51] videos and I would just say yeah you're [01:28:53] only funny for 15 seconds at a time more [01:28:56] than that you're screwed it's more than [01:28:58] zero and now it's up to you got to be [01:29:01] funny for a while you got to be funny [01:29:03] for a long time anyway go ahead sorry [01:29:05] sorry so the peanut gallery has a kind [01:29:08] of a recurring segment here and so we're [01:29:11] going to ask you the similar question [01:29:12] it's Mary [01:29:14] kill beating your dad at [01:29:16] Boston the pull-up record taking it back [01:29:19] from was it Brandon Garrett who had 92 [01:29:23] Doug sensor mark oh yeah that's right [01:29:25] okay and then beating Matt [01:29:28] Johnson so wait a second oh you got to [01:29:32] give okay yeah Mary kill those [01:29:36] three okay that's for you and then [01:29:41] so yeah oh shoot that's the the kill one [01:29:44] you don't care about or wait is that how [01:29:47] yeah yeah kill one you wouldn't care you [01:29:49] wouldn't care about giving up the merry [01:29:50] one is the most important the one is one [01:29:53] you want to bend over in [01:29:56] space Matt Matt are you hearing me I [01:30:00] want to SP B him [01:30:03] over no no uh theoretically or [01:30:07] metaphorically oh so yeah him at [01:30:10] Leadville for sure what Mary no oh the [01:30:15] the other I I don't want to there's kids [01:30:17] listening to this coidus make make love [01:30:20] to okay so make love to Matt at [01:30:23] Leadville doesn't sound right sweet sweet [01:30:27] love okay so I'll just say it that's a [01:30:31] beating mad at Leadville is a [01:30:34] yeah yeah I think he said that right and [01:30:38] then I would [01:30:40] say probably [01:30:42] kill beating you up [01:30:45] Boston and then [01:30:48] Mary what beating the pull-up record the [01:30:51] pullup record okay yeah yeah I mean you [01:30:53] can't give up the pullup record no [01:30:55] married to the game and I would say kill [01:30:57] beating you at Boston because because [01:30:58] that's not going to happen well no it's [01:31:00] just it's kind of sad oh it is sad yeah [01:31:03] it's just like I mean for somebody as [01:31:04] old as me to beat like you in your Prime [01:31:07] that is sad no I wasn't thinking that I [01:31:09] was just thinking that like I wouldn't [01:31:11] mind if you know your dad you look up to [01:31:13] your dad all your life I wouldn't mind [01:31:15] if you're still that guy if I beat you [01:31:17] yeah if you're still beating me we I'm [01:31:19] the saying I thought you were going to [01:31:20] go the other way like no okay I'm saying [01:31:22] that like that that would still make me [01:31:24] feel good if you were able to outperform [01:31:27] me I'd be I'd be like good job [01:31:32] gay no you got to crush me I got to be [01:31:35] some fee old man that [inaudible] his pants [01:31:38] halfway like at the half way AP part no [01:31:42] I'm sorry that's the that's the kind of [01:31:43] guy that I am I I just want my dad to [01:31:45] perform well how about [01:31:47] that okay you have to give me the pep [01:31:49] talk like I used to give you guys y yeah [01:31:52] you got to give your all you little [01:31:54] piece of [inaudible] yep no I I won't hold [01:31:57] back okay do we got any more yeah okay [01:32:00] you talked about the uh fastest mile [01:32:02] time you said Tanner had it before with [01:32:04] a 6 was it 638 639 639 you came in at [01:32:09] 628 I believe you're leaving out the [01:32:11] world's greatest real estate agent [01:32:12] somewhere in there oo Triple Oaks Eric [01:32:16] umhofer yeah jeez I haven't said that [01:32:19] name in years Triple Oaks Real Estate [01:32:21] now he so Tanner had the record for a [01:32:23] year and then it got beat by Eric [01:32:25] umhofer the next year 628 I'm pretty [01:32:28] sure that we've we've hashed this out [01:32:30] before right I think so I think Eric [01:32:32] probably paid him off to talk about this [01:32:34] again but yes Eric umhofer six 638 is [01:32:38] what he got he beat Tanner by 1 second [01:32:40] yep and then you took the crown two [01:32:42] years later yeah but you've been [01:32:44] training since you're in second grade [01:32:45] that doesn't count no it doesn't count [01:32:47] we did we went to Hayward one time I [01:32:49] don't know how old you were and you ran [01:32:51] how long did you run yeah yeah you took [01:32:54] so it ended up getting dark and I was in [01:32:57] my all gold little uh tank top and [01:32:59] shorts matching shorts matching starter [01:33:02] I think I think I was I was probably 5 [01:33:05] years old and I remember just kept [01:33:07] running around the track running around [01:33:09] the track we ended up getting to like 20 [01:33:10] laps because I remember you would like [01:33:12] you're like man I'm so proud of you this [01:33:14] is good and I think that was the only [01:33:15] time you've ever said [01:33:17] that probably I was lying to so then [01:33:21] yeah just every single time I was like [01:33:22] man this feels good I'm [01:33:24] you know doing exactly what my dad wants [01:33:26] me to do and and feeling good about [01:33:28] myself but we ended up making it like 20 [01:33:30] laps so I think it's five miles for at [01:33:34] night for someone who's 5 years old yeah [01:33:36] that felt good that was hay that was [01:33:38] when you could just go to Hayward Field [01:33:40] and just go run now they got all locked [01:33:42] up actually athletes can't even go and [01:33:44] run there right now yeah that was a [01:33:46] crazy time to be life that was fun so [01:33:50] yeah we spent a lot of time on that [01:33:51] track mhm growing up as kids legendary [01:33:54] Hayward Field but yeah okay we have [01:33:57] other questions too for the film but [01:33:59] this TR tru's name is still on the [01:34:00] banner at Yolanda Elementary isn't it [01:34:03] yeah and the rafters yeah for [01:34:07] de uh this one I I want to ask you on the [01:34:10] podcast um you guys have talked about [01:34:13] how you know you you put out these big [01:34:15] goals into the world you speak them [01:34:17] Conor McGregor once said if you can see [01:34:19] it and have the courage to speak it it [01:34:21] will happen do you feel like that's true [01:34:26] yeah I think if you take yourself [01:34:28] seriously and if you respect yourself if [01:34:31] you say a goal out [01:34:32] loud then you're going to mean it and [01:34:35] people will know that you mean it [01:34:38] but yeah I mean for me if I'm serious [01:34:41] about something then I'll I'll say it [01:34:43] loud and proud just like the sub 230 [01:34:45] Marathon that's hard to achieve but I [01:34:48] just want people to know that I'm going [01:34:49] to give my absolute all and if I don't [01:34:51] say it then I don't really mean it it's [01:34:52] easy to hide behind something that you [01:34:54] don't actually say out loud and [01:34:55] verbalize it so yeah if if you can [01:34:59] actually say it confidently and whether [01:35:02] people however they take it but if you [01:35:04] can say it confidently trust in your [01:35:06] abilities trust in the plan then I think [01:35:08] you can make it happen no matter who you [01:35:09] are all it takes is everything that you [01:35:11] got you have to be willing to to give [01:35:14] everything but no I mean nothing is [01:35:17] impossible if you're willing to put in [01:35:19] the work no matter who you are I don't [01:35:20] think there's seriously anything special [01:35:22] about me but it's just just the fact [01:35:24] that I'm willing to put in the [01:35:29] work got some ability I don't I haven't seen [01:35:34] that bad genetics I've seen that I heard [01:35:40] that yeah uh so what do you think the [01:35:44] difference is then because some people [01:35:46] will say their goal and they almost get [01:35:47] this um release of like oh I told [01:35:51] someone I'm going to do it and they gave [01:35:52] me this pray for having this goal and [01:35:55] then they they don't actually accomplish [01:35:56] it cuz their mind kind of tricks them [01:35:57] the feeling like they already did it so [01:36:00] where do you draw that line that's the [01:36:02] analogy of a lot of times people say [01:36:05] they're going to write a book they get [01:36:07] the same dopamine and feedback and [01:36:11] praise as if they did it already like oh [01:36:13] that's great and then that's all they [01:36:15] ever do is just say they're going to [01:36:16] they never do it so that's kind of what [01:36:18] this is is mirroring I think there's a [01:36:21] word for those type of people losers [01:36:25] dumb no I mean if if you [01:36:28] seriously get your rocks off by just [01:36:31] saying that you're going to do something [01:36:32] and then nothing materializes then [01:36:35] that's stupid that's crazy that you [01:36:38] would even feel that way but I'm sure [01:36:41] I'm sure that there are people like that [01:36:42] but um some people might be genuine then [01:36:46] get that feedback and then lose the [01:36:48] drive a little bit and then that then [01:36:50] the momentum's gone I don't know yeah [01:36:52] then you never wanted it in the first [01:36:53] place right yeah I mean that's that's [01:36:55] kind of what I would take from it yeah [01:36:57] but I mean like someone like Conor [01:36:58] McGregor he didn't give himself any [01:37:01] other options no and we're not just you [01:37:04] know this family isn't just [01:37:07] like I've heard I mean I've heard people [01:37:09] say some crazy [inaudible] and I'm like [01:37:12] listening to it [01:37:14] going that's never going to happen yeah [01:37:17] but conversely our family we don't [01:37:21] usually talk out our ass if we say [01:37:24] okay I'm going to do this it's going to [01:37:26] happen mhm it's like there's not just [01:37:29] like these fake little I want to be [01:37:31] celebrated for a little bit I'm going to [01:37:33] say this thing it's [01:37:35] like we're going to H it's going to [01:37:37] happen going to say it's going to happen [01:37:39] yeah if you say it you should mean it [01:37:42] mhm okay last one this one's just for me [01:37:45] cuz I wanted to get it on public record [01:37:48] uh he bed 230 blah blah blah Did 50k I [01:37:52] know where he's going with this [01:37:55] you said something you said to me haunts [01:37:58] you every day you doubted [01:38:00] me do you have to do you have something [01:38:03] to say to me James yeah what camera am I [01:38:05] speaking to right now I I don't you know [01:38:08] you know what this is about yep okay I [01:38:11] voted this is not good James has been [01:38:14] harboring this pain for a while in this [01:38:18] resentment or not James Gideon there was [01:38:21] a poll and it asked who we think is [01:38:24] going to win this 50k the Frozen Trail [01:38:27] 50k that I ran with him and Eric um this [01:38:32] last December who I thought was going to [01:38:34] win between him and Eric the [01:38:36] head-to-head matchup much like Matt [01:38:38] Johnson and me at Leadville I voted for Eric [01:38:41] umhofer biggest mistake of my life I [01:38:46] didn't realize that he had the knees of a [01:38:50] 85-year-old you'd think those quas those [01:38:53] quads alone would have got him I think [01:38:55] maybe what happened is his quads are so [01:38:57] big and strong that they yeah his knees [01:38:59] malfunctioned they didn't know what to [01:39:00] do level of force but yeah James [01:39:03] absolutely smoked him and uh I voted for [01:39:06] Eric obviously because he had run a [01:39:08] marathon previously James never had I [01:39:10] thought experience would work in Eric's [01:39:12] favor it did not James crushed him and [01:39:17] um I mean I don't want to bad mou [01:39:20] badmouth Eric I don't think he finished [01:39:22] in time for the cut off Eric is that [01:39:24] right he didn't even finish the actual [01:39:27] course this this will be off the [01:39:30] Record yeah Eric uh he he got except [01:39:34] this is [01:39:34] live he actually he came down the main [01:39:38] trail of Pisa and uh I was sitting in [01:39:41] the truck waiting for him and this uh [01:39:43] side by side someone a maintenance [01:39:44] person like came down the main trail and [01:39:46] drove off and when he got in the truck I [01:39:48] was like Oh I thought you were had [01:39:49] ridden in the the maintenance vehicle [01:39:51] he's like no no no we get like 10 [01:39:53] minutes on the road and he's like all [01:39:54] right I got to be honest he's like I had [01:39:56] him drop me off he's like I told the guy [01:39:58] drop me off like 10 yards up the trail [01:40:00] so my friend doesn't see me oh nice well [01:40:03] smart so okay I apologize James you made [01:40:07] it happen you're the man but also you [01:40:10] voted against me between myself and Matt [01:40:13] Johnson at uh the Leadville 100 so looks [01:40:16] like we're even looks like turnabout's [01:40:19] fair play I was just returning the favor [01:40:23] yeah well understood I think we can't [01:40:25] really mention the Frozen Trail Ultra [01:40:27] without giving a shout out to Rodney [01:40:29] Williams who got the win Rodney Williams [01:40:32] congratulations better man I think that [01:40:34] was his first Ultra win which he's he's [01:40:37] a good runner he's a stud love Rodney [01:40:39] been put in work oh man he let he lets [01:40:42] the results speak for themselves yeah [01:40:44] he's I mean he he uh yeah just a grinder [01:40:49] and been working I know talking with Ben [01:40:51] a little bit Ben blank and ship is a a [01:40:53] great Runner Olympian from around here [01:40:55] he coaches people um Big Timber Running [01:40:59] Company or running yeah I think it's Big [01:41:01] Timber running he coaches mostly for the [01:41:03] Eugene Marathon but uh been helping [01:41:05] Rodney out with advice and [01:41:08] Rodney's man he's a freaking stud but he [01:41:11] got the win that day that was cool to [01:41:12] see if you weren't going to win I wanted [01:41:14] him to win absolutely speaking of [01:41:16] winning who do you have four Matt [01:41:20] Johnson versus me Leadville 100 cuz [01:41:22] you're going to be there actually you're [01:41:24] going to be running it [01:41:27] right am I um I have a hurt foot yeah [01:41:33] remember I can't Ah that's a good my [01:41:36] foot is broke okay um but here's what I [01:41:40] said because somebody did did we talk [01:41:41] about this on the last one yeah with [01:41:44] Matt Johnson yeah so I just said Matt is [01:41:49] uh I don't know where I said this but I [01:41:51] think I said you're you're a hard person [01:41:53] to doubt these days you put in the work [01:41:56] you got the ability you got everything [01:41:59] um Matt is also very [01:42:01] dedicated he's won 100 mile I think in [01:42:05] 19 hours he's ran 10 miles at 56 minutes [01:42:09] which is flying so he he does have [01:42:13] ability um proven to be a good runner [01:42:16] proven to be tough ran across Texas so [01:42:19] he's a [01:42:20] stud I can't doubt I think you got such [01:42:23] a high ceiling if you get your your [01:42:26] Mountain miles [01:42:28] in you'll [01:42:30] win if you just run on the flat around [01:42:33] your little neighborhood with what Theo [01:42:36] had a good joke about a neighborhood too [01:42:38] like he said he didn't know his [01:42:40] neighborhood was basically just a bunch [01:42:42] of druggies that had sex and kids that's [01:42:44] supposedly a neighborhood so your [01:42:46] neighbor your neighborhood if you just [01:42:48] run around your neighborhood it's going [01:42:50] to be rough if you get in the mountains [01:42:52] yeah going to win that's my prediction [01:42:56] Matt are you with us you still there [01:42:59] Matt Matt testing Des yeah so uh but [01:43:03] Matt and Matt's going to be I heard he [01:43:04] was going to be in Leadville for like [01:43:06] seven weeks so I think it's five okay [01:43:10] it's five more weeks and I'm going to be [01:43:11] in Leadville yeah but um what I would [01:43:14] say about that is either you have that [01:43:17] dog in you or you [01:43:18] don't you know we're going to find out I [01:43:22] know who's going to win [01:43:23] no me obviously oh okay okay yeah so I [01:43:27] think that too um you're hard to doubt [01:43:29] everything you've been saying you've [01:43:31] been getting I think the next to fall [01:43:33] will be that 230 marathon and then [01:43:37] hopefully get the win at the last man [01:43:38] standing and then beat Matt at Leadville [01:43:41] yeah that's not too much I don't think [01:43:43] so yeah no that it's good to have high [01:43:47] expectations of yourself and um yeah it [01:43:49] just keeps you motivated keeps you [01:43:52] focused on the task at hand so that's [01:43:53] what I like and I like the pressure so [01:43:56] did you run today [01:43:58] yep good man of course yeah well um is [01:44:04] that it that's it okay that's a wrap [01:44:07] thank you for the podcast you got [01:44:08] anything you'd like to close with shout [01:44:11] out to all your [01:44:13] peeps gang shout out to my family shout [01:44:16] out to Alicia couldn't have done it [01:44:18] without all you guys so yeah if [01:44:30] you don't have that then um you should get [01:44:34] it yeah good and good luck finding that [01:44:37] cuz yeah it's a it's a perfect storm [01:44:40] when it happens but yeah they say that [01:44:42] your dad is the only one who wants to [01:44:44] see you do better than them that's true [01:44:47] so it's uh yeah I love seeing you win I [01:44:50] love seeing Tanner win I
